where PI =I+x, P2 =1+x2, P3 =x+x2.ls the S a basis for P2? If so, then find the

coordinate vcctor of the polynomial p(x) = 2- x + x2 relative to the basis S. (15)

(c) Let Wbe the subspace of R4 spanned by the vectors vI = (1,4,5,2), v2 = (2,1,3,0), and

V3 = (-1,3,2,2). Find a basis for the orthogonal complement of W. (10)

vectors ~ = (1,-1,0), u2 = (2,0,-2), and u) = (3,-3,3) into an orthogonal basis

(b) Let r: P2 ~ ~ be the linear transfonnation defined by r(p(x)) = xp(3x - 5), that

IS, r(co + c]x +C2x2) = x(co +CI (3x -5)+c2 (3x _5)2). (15)

Find the matrix' for r with respect to the standard bases B = {1,x, x2} and

B' = {I,x, x2, x3}. Finally, for any:! E P2 , verify the relation [r ]B',Bl!]B = [r~)]B' .
