What Is Osmosis
What Is Osmosis
Ans.
Osmosis: The movement of solvent or water from higher concentration (solvent) to lower
concentration(solvent) through a semipermeable membrane is called as osmosis.
(i)Exosmosis: The process by which water molecules move out of the cell is called exosmosis.
(ii) Endosmosis: The process by which water molecules enter a cell is called endosmosis.
Q. What are the different types of solution comparing with the concentration of the cell.
Ans.
(A) Isotonic solution: When the concentration of the solution outside is equal to the
concentration of the cytoplasm of the cell, it is called Isotonic solution.
(B) Hypotonic Solution: When the concentration of the solution outside the cell is more
than that of the cytoplasm of the cell. Due to this cell swells up and burst.
(C) Hypertonic Solution: When the concentration of the solution outside the cell is lesser
than that inside the cell. Due to this cell looses water and becomes plasmolysed.
