PEN Subject Title: PRINCIPLES OF
TEACHING I

A. Course Description

The course envisions the learners to be equipped with the necessary skills,
intelligences, values and disposition to prepare them in the world of teaching. It aims at
deepening their understanding with the true meaning of “being and becoming a teacher.”
This is a course geared towards a full understanding of the principles, pedagogies, and
methodologies in teaching. Similarly, the latest trends, issues and the demands of teaching
the 21st century learners will be discussed to prepare the learners to become an agent of
learning who are capable to provide an effective, meaningful, relevant and quality teaching in
their respective field of specialization.

B. Course/Subject Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students taking the course in Principles of Teaching
should have:
1. expressed analytical understanding of the purpose of teaching in relation to the roles,
responsibilities, issues and challenges of being and becoming a 21st century educator;

2. demonstrated critical interaction with the primary philosophical, educational, and


learning/instructional theories;

3. designed empowering teaching strategies within various theoretical approaches that move
both the minds and the hearts; and

4. Demonstrated necessary skills in the art of teaching that can respond appropriately to the
learning styles and needs of the student-clienteles.
