c) Lighting and Ventilation: -
All-natural lighting and ventilation to the building are through the doors and the windows of each room and
area.
Ground Floor
Tuition class: -
The ventilation and natural lighting to the tuition class have access through 3 points which are the Aluminium
sliding door, Timber door through the living area (D2) and the timber framed window (W1). Most of the
ventilation is through the sliding door and the window since it is a direct opening to the environment.
Living Area: -
The ventilation and natural lighting to the living area have access through 4 points which are the main door
(D1), the timber door through to the garage (D2), window opening to the garage (W1), and the 3 windows that
goes to the 2nd floor from the 1st floor (W3). Except for these 3 windows every other access points provide both
natural light and ventilation. But the 3 windows (W3) provide only natural lighting since these are sealed
windows.
Dining Area: -
The natural light and ventilation to the dining area is provided through 1 access point which is the Aluminium
sliding door (D3). Since this has a large area enough lighting and natural air is accessible inside the dining area.
Visitor’s Room: -
The ventilation and natural lighting to the Visitor’s Room have access through 2 points which are 2 timber
windows in the room (W1). The opening can be fully opened. Additionally, there is a minimum of 1m length to
the land edge which natural lighting and ventilation won’t be restricted.

Upper Floor
Laundry room: -
The ventilation and natural lighting to the laundry room have access through only one point which is the
window (W1) towards the main entrance.
Living Area: -
The ventilation and natural lighting to the upper floor living area have access through 4 points which are the
aluminium sliding door (D3) that opens to the balcony, 2 windows (W2) that are either side of the staircase and
the 3 windows (W3) panes that runs from the ground floor to the upper floor. All other access points of the
upper floor living area provides both natural lighting and ventilation except for the 3 windowpanes which only
provides natural lighting.
Bedroom 2: -
The ventilation and natural lighting to the bedroom 2 have access through 3 points which are the timber framed
door that opens to the upper floor living area and the 2 windows (W1) which one window opens to the South
while the other opens to the West. All the windows can be opened fully.
Bedroom 1: -
The ventilation and natural lighting to the bedroom 1 have 2 access point which are the Timber framed window
(W1) that can be opened 100% and the timber door that gives access to the upper floor living area from the
room.
Master Bedroom: -
The natural lighting and ventilation for the master bedroom is provided from the aluminium sliding door that
opens to the balcony which is to the rear end of the land and the timber door that opens to the upper floor living
area. These 2 access points provide enough natural light and natural air to the master bedroom.
Office: -
The ventilation and natural lighting to the office has access through only 1 point which is the Timber framed
window (W2) which opens to the east of the land. This window can be opened fully getting the maximum
amount of natural light and natural air as possible.

d) Landscape around the building: -
The main two components in the landscape around the building is the septic tank and the soakage pit. The septic
tank is located next to the kitchen and the soakage pit is located next to in between the visitor’s room and the
visitor’s toilet.
Apart from that there is a garden in the rear end of the land for Mrs. Mathagaweera’s purposes that can be
accessible from around the house, from the kitchen door or the sliding door in the ground floor dining area.
The landscape that stretches just after the garage which has a width of 5m can be also used for gardening or any
sort of preference. Trees can also be planted in that area since it has enough width from the house to the land
edge.
The south side of the building has a width of 1m. Small type of gardening can be done in this stretch. Planting
trees in that stretch is not encouraged since it will affect the neighbouring land and in future roots might cause
damage to the foundation of the building causing cracks in walls.
The main stretch from the entrance to the land to the entrance to the house can be used for many purposes since
it has a width of 5m and a total span of 15m. Something suitable can be constructed (garden, small playground,
pathway, pond etc: -) according to the owner’s preference.
