DEfinition
Curriculum standards are broad statements of what
students need to know and do as a result of
learning.
In the K-12 curriculum also includes learning
competencies. The Department of Education and its
memorandum order number 8 series of 2015
defined curriculum standards and competencies
CONTENT STANDARD

knowledge and understanding that

PERFORMANCE STANDARD

Describe the abilities and skills

demonstrate in relation to the
content standards and intention of
21st century Skills.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES

Refer to the knowledge, skills, and


understanding that learners need
to demonstrate in every lesson or
activity.
Steps in unpacking curriculum standards and competencies.

step 1 Classify standards as knowledge, skills, and


values.
Knowledge – if the learning competency calls for
remembering and basic comprehension of a concept or a
skill
Skill – if the learning competency calls for the learner to
demonstrate or apply a skill or desired behaviour.
Values – if the learning competency calls for valuing and
appreciation

Teachers must use a wide range of stimulating and


exciting materials to teach the concepts outlined in the
curriculum to ensure that students are actively involved
in their learning.
In time, students and parents witness a shift from
textbook based to standards based instruction, bringing
educational practices in line with the best school
systems around the world.
With the implementation of the new K-12
curriculum, schools provide students with an
invitation to explore, investigate, learn and
collaborate.
The learning environment provides ample
opportunity for planned student interactions and
engagement.
Teachers, therefore must use a wide range of
stimulating and exciting materials to teach the
concepts outlined in the curriculum to ensure that
students are actively involved in their learning.
Curriculum Guide (CG)

This is a structured document that


delineates the philosophy, goals, objectives,
learning experiences, instructional
resources and assessments that comprise a
specific educational program.
Daily Lesson Log (DLL)

It is a template teachers use to log parts of


their daily lesson.
The DLL covers a day's or a week's worth of
lessons and contains the following parts:
Objectives, Content, Learning Resources,
Procedures, Remarks and Reflection.
Teacher’s Guide (TG)

This guide includes scripted lesson outlines,


offering step-by-step direction on.
It provides an example of how to teach the
system to small
groups or classes.
Learning Materials (LM)

These are any collection of materials


including animate and inanimate objects
and human and non-human resources that
a teacher may use in teaching and learning
situations to help achieve desired learning
objectives.
