BLUE TIPS

22 INFLIGHT PRE-ARRIVAL GUIDE 2021

CREW BASES
JetBlue currently operates Inflight Crew bases at New York, NY (JFK); Fort Lauderdale, FL (FLL);
Los Angeles, CA (LAX); Boston, MA (BOS); and Orlando, FL (MCO). We do our best to award your
Crew base assignments on or before week 2 of training. Crewmembers must be prepared to
relocate to any assigned Crew base. You will complete a ‘Welcome to Inflight Orientation’ event
prior to Graduation. This will include what you need to know as you transition to your base.
Relocation
Inflight Crewmembers completing Initial Training will receive 4 relocation days, typically following
Graduation, unless operational needs dictate otherwise.
• Relocation days may be adjusted as operationally necessary during holiday/peak schedule
periods.
• Relocation days might not be accommodated during holiday/peak schedule periods.
• Inflight Crewmembers relocating from outside their assigned base area may request up to 3
additional unpaid consecutive days, which will be granted by Crew Planning in seniority order,
unless operational needs dictate otherwise. (Request for additional days must be made by
emailing CrewPlanning@jetblue.com prior to the beginning of the IOE flight).
NOTE: During operation needs, Inflight graduates will be required to fly out on Tuesday after
graduation, have an off day Wednesday, report for base Orientation day on Thursday, then be on
Reserve Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon. The four (4) days for relocation will follow after Reserve days.
You are responsible for arriving to work on time, every day! If you do not live in the city where you
will be based, you have the following two options: You can relocate to your new base or you can
choose to commute. If you choose to commute, you should arrange for a “crash pad” - a shared
living space near your Crew base. Crash pads vary greatly: some are just like regular houses or
apartments with just a few people sharing, while others resemble dorm-style living. After you are
assigned your Crew Base, it is advisable to start making arrangements in your new base location.
Please keep in mind that you will likely incur some expenses during this process.
Please plan accordingly.
JETBLUE BENEFITS
As a JetBlue Crewmember, you may elect medical, dental, and vision
coverage. An overview of your benefits package is included in your offer
letter. Your benefits become effective on the first of the month following
30 days of service (including training). It would be a good idea to look
into maintaining your current coverage or researching other insurance
options until your JetBlue Benefits begin.
COMPENSATION
Details of your compensation are included in your offer letter. You officially become a JetBlue
Crewmember on the first day of Orientation. Since you are in training and not flying, your salary is
pro-rated and calculated differently during this period. Pay dates for Inflight Crewmembers are on
the 8th and 20th of each month.

TRAINING

26 INFLIGHT PRE-ARRIVAL GUIDE 2021

TRAINING EXPECTATIONS
Your training will be conducted at JetBlue University. Details of your schedule, learning objectives,
and training standards will be given to you following Orientation in your first module – Training
Expectations. Professional conduct, attendance, attire, and attitude expectations will be also be
explained in detail during this time. We want you to be successful in your training and encourage
you to actively participate in your training experience.

To be successful, you will need to...

• Be on time and ready to go. We strive to be an on-time airline and it begins in the classroom,
you must be on-time for every module, every day. If you are early you are on time.
• Come prepared for class. We will give you all the information you need to be successful. To
succeed, you should study that information daily and have all of your required items for class.
• Have basic computer knowledge. Your exams and some of your learning modules will be
completed online. If you are not comfortable operating a computer, be sure to spend some time
practicing prior to arrival.
• Achieve testing standards. The airline industry is regulated by the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) and we take regulatory compliance with their regulations very seriously.
Therefore, the Inflight Qualification Training testing standards must be met. All Inflight
Qualification Training expectations will be outlined at the beginning of training.
• Project professional conduct and appearance. We expect appropriate and mature behavior and
attire during training as well as at The Lodge and on your own time.

INFLIGHT PRE-ARRIVAL GUIDE 2021 27

WHAT DOES TRAINING LOOK LIKE?
Advancement in the training program will include assessments of your knowledge and skills.
There are three types of assessments throughout the training program:
• Knowledge/Systems Validations - KSVs
• Motor Skill Validations - MSVs
• Event Management Evaluations – EMEs
KNOWLEDGE/SYSTEMS VALIDATIONS are administered on your iPad or a computer and your
scores are available automatically upon completion. A grade of 80% or higher is required to pass
each KSV. You will be given the opportunity to retake the KSV if you score below 80%. Only two
retakes are allowed.
MOTOR SKILL VALIDATIONS are performance-based
evaluations that are administered one-on-one with an
instructor in a simulated environment. You have four
attempts to successfully complete each MSV. If you do not
pass the MSV on the first or second attempt, you will receive
a demonstration prior to your third attempt. If unsuccessful
on your third attempt, a fourth attempt will be given the next
scheduled class day. If you are not successful on the fourth
attempt, you will no longer continue in training.
The end of your training will include an EVENT
MANAGEMENT EVALUATION (EME), and INITIAL OPERATING
EXPERIENCE (IOE) flight.
EVENT MANAGEMENT EVALUATIONS are assessments in
which you are evaluated as an individual and as part of a crew
on responding to various scenarios you have been trained in.
One retake of an Event Management Evaluation is allowed.
INITIAL OPERATING EXPERIENCE (IOE) is a flight during
which you will perform the duties of an Inflight Crewmember
under the supervision of an IOE Evaluator. The Initial
Operating Experience will be at least two flight segments.
TRAIN-TO-PROFICIENCY (TTP) LABS are a combination of practice and evaluation that allow
Crewmembers to learn and master skills in a low-pressure environment. Some emergency
situations will be trained using TTPs.
Note: JetBlue will provide reasonable accommodations to Crewmembers with qualified
disabilities in accordance with the ADA. If you require reasonable accommodation for pre-work, in-
class activities, online learning or testing, or class itself, please inform your instructor or contact
People Compliance at ADAPeopleCompliance@jetblue.com, prior to training. Requests will be
kept confidential and shared strictly on a need-to-know basis.

THE 24-HOUR CLOCK
The aviation industry uses the 24-hour clock to communicate. As its name suggests, it operates
on the notion that there are 24 hours in a day. It is characterized by 4 numerals. The first 2
numbers refer to the hour of the day; the second 2 numbers refer to the minute of the hour. Since
each hour has its own number associated with it, the a.m. and p.m. designators are dropped. The
colon between the hour and minutes is also dropped.
The first hour of the day is 1:00 a.m. or 0100; the second hour is 2:00 a.m. or 0200. When you reach
12:00 p.m. or 1200, the next hour of the day, 1:00 p.m., is the 13th hour, or 1300.
Here are a few examples:
STANDARD 24-HOUR PRONUNCIATION
9:25 am 0925 zero nine twenty-five
10:00 am 1000 ten hundred
3:00 pm 1500 fifteen hundred
12:00 am 0000 zero hundred

JETBLUE AIRPORT CODES

The aviation industry identifies each airport in the world by a unique three-letter code. You will
need to memorize all of our Blue Cities and their airport codes for your first Knowledge Check. It
is not necessary for you to know the official airport name, just the Blue City and the airport code.
