Rationale
Arts and crafts from Dumalaguing, Impasugong Bukidnon have found new life as esoteric
art forms and décor accessories in modern homes. Even the simple tools and indigenous products
used by the people were well-craft and artistically designed. Out of this indigenous products
they can form headdresses, earrings, anklets, belly rings, bracelets, and necklaces. Thus, there’s a
call for help to showcase their creative craftsmanship and to exhibit their products in the business
arena. We need to support local products and promote this nationally and internationally.
Dumalaguing is a barangay in the municipality of Impasugong, in the province of
Bukidnon. This barangay is know for it’s famous abaca fiber and rich with indigenous products.

Project Description

Hinabol is a hand woven fabric made by the ethnic Higanon tribe in Northern Mindanao. This
is called the “woven happiness” because weaving is meant to be a happy activity, the hinabol
weaver expresses her feelings on her loom and it is seen in the distinctive patterns and vibrant
colors of the hinabol. Out of this indigenous materials we can create textile, bags, wallet and etc.
A Banig is basically a hand-woven mat made of Buri, or Pandan or seagrass leaves and not a
textile. The leaves are dried and dyed and woven afterward to produce a uniquely designed or
patterned mat. These mats are usually used for sleeping and eating but are now being made into
another new and creative materials that could also be useful to people. The production of Banig
products such as a Banig bag, Banig clutch, and Banig carpet

Mechanics and Implementation

One way to start of the this project is to connect with the weavers of the craft and let them
decide on the right price of their products. Examine all the qualities of the products if it’s ready
to sell or needs improvement. Keen observation should be the utmost priority. When the items
are good and ready to go then advertising on Facebook will follow. Virtually all small
businesses have a hard time of it in the beginning, but craft businesses can have it tougher than
some. Between the cost of materials, the time required to actually make products, and typically
higher prices than consumers used to mass-produced goods are used to, there’s rarely a lot of
spare cash lying around. However, advertising on social media is one of the most cost-effective
ways of getting your name out there, and can make a huge difference to fledgling craft
businesses. The last final step is the inventory and evaluation of the product if it’s efficient.

Expected Output

Hinabol in particular is usually made into kamuyot, a backpack type of bags, Placemats, throw
pillows, bags, lampshades, woven rolls of hinabol which is then crafted to bags and souvenirs.
and other items out of their native materials. On the other hand, Banig bags, banig mats and
banig placemats can add a lovely pop of color to any home. Bring back the Banig mats for
friends who are into camping or the outdoors, and Banig bags for those who love fashion with a
funky touch. The sleeping mats can be slightly tricky for travel, unless you have enough space in
your bag for something about the size of a rolled yoga mat. Otherwise, the placemats are a better
option if you are low on space.
