Motel

The existing motel logging system is manual, time-consuming, and lacks real-time information. Key activities like guest inquiries, bookings, and check-ins/outs are done manually without a centralized system. This makes operations inefficient. The proposed system aims to develop a computerized application to automate and streamline all motel activities for improved workflow and guest management. A centralized database system will provide up-to-date information on availability and occupancy to help optimize operations.

ABSTRACT

The knowledge and understanding of quality standards of guests helps motel

managers improve the quality of motel services and increase guests’
satisfaction with the motel stay. Different aspects of a motel offer participate
in the guests’ evaluation of the motel experience. The factors that influence
guests’ satisfaction level are also named “motel attributes”. There exist a
large number of factors that influence guests’ impressions, but certainly not
all of them have the same level of importance for guests. In order to be
aware of the strengths and weaknesses of their businesses, motel logging has
to identify which improvements in the motel operations can bring additional
value to their guests. One of the most reliable information sources for
gaining customer knowledge is undoubtedly the feedback provided directly
from customers. If analyzed properly, it can be exploited for the purpose of
improving the motel operations and raising profits. The environment in
which hospitality businesses operate nowadays has become radically
connected to the use of the Internet. An increase in the usage of social media
triggered extreme changes in the information channels that motel guests use
in order to make booking decisions. Hence, the hotel management should be
aware that travel information websites present a valuable source of
information about customer preferences. They offer service providers a
possibility to have an insight into the reasons for satisfaction or
disappointment of their guests. The aim of this thesis is to examine the
relationship between different motel attributes and the guests’ overall
satisfaction with the hotel stay. It tries to uncover the most influential motel
attributes for the formation of guests’ satisfaction. For this purpose, a
content analysis of motel reviews available from TripAdvisor was used. The
results of this research indicate that the attribute “service” has the greatest
influence on customer satisfaction with the hotel stay. In addition, it is
suggested that the way a service is provided has more influence on the
satisfaction than some physical aspects of the motel stay. Moreover, the
value received for the price paid is perceived as a factor that influences the
satisfaction of guests, regardless of the star category of a motel.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1 General Introduction

Motel, also called Motor Lodge, Motor Court, Tourist Court,
or Motor Inn, originally a hotel designed for persons travelling by
automobile, with convenient parking space provided. Motels serve
commercial and business travelers and
persons attending conventions and meetings as well as vacationers
and tourists. The automobile became the principal mode of travel
by 1950 in the United States and by the 1960s in Europe and
Japan; and motels were built as near as possible to interstate
highways, just as hotels had been built as near as possible to
railroad stations. Most motels provide an informal atmosphere
compared to hotels; often the guest transports his own luggage to
and from his room. Most but not all motels
have restaurant facilities and many have swimming pools; most
rooms contain a television set.
1.2 Objective of the Project
The main objective of a front-office system for a motel is to
maximiser the revenue, streamline operations and also reduce
manual workload. For this reason, most hotel Software systems
are sales-revenue-oriented rather than cost-control-oriented and
are based on reservation, registration, and guest accounting
needs of the property. Front-office computers can be linked to the
telephone system to monitor and bill guests’ accounts for charges
of local and long-distance calls to preclude the hotel from paying
for telephone costs not recovered through charges on guest
accounts.

The front-office system can also provide constantly updated

information to other departments such as housekeeping, food,
and beverage areas relating to room occupancy and guest counts,
so that adequate staffing can be arranged, thereby precluding
departments from being overstaffed.

Finally, front-office computers can prepare and print room
department operating ratios such as occupancy and double-
occupancy percentages, average daily rates, and the daily yield
statistic.

1.3 Existing System

Existing System Overview:

 Motels are the place where you stay, eat meals and utilize their other

services.

 As computer has merged with man as single entity so a computerized

application can be developed that can handle MOTEL LOGGING.

Various activities take place in Motel like: -

 All the above activity takes place manually, manually carrying out this

activity in very tedious time consuming.

 As we have tried to develop computerized application so as to handle all

the activity that takes place in motel.

As all the activities that happen in the Motel such as enquiry, check status
booking etc. can be handled on this system simultaneously.

Existing System

The existing system of Motel was manual. All the daily routines are carried
out manually and the records are maintained in the record books or the
registers.

Booking: -

The customer used to make enquiry for rooms available, and then
depending upon the status he used to make booking. All the data the
receptionist used to give the customer was based on paper works, there was
no clear idea of the status of rooms as they did not update automatically.
