Progress Report of Reading Program of Grade 2

The progress report summarizes the reading program for grades 2 and 3 at Diotorin Elementary School. An assessment using the EGRA tool showed that some students struggled with letter sounds and reading levels were frustration. Through remedial instruction and distributing reading materials, the students' reading levels improved from frustration to instructional and independent. A reading progress chart shows that after remedial activities from October 2021 to July 2022, the number of non-readers decreased and more students could read syllables, words, and with comprehension. The program aimed to improve reading performance through remediation and developing a home reading habit.

As we are facing the worldwide pandemic, the Department of Education (DepEd) faces different learning problems. Reading difficulties
among pupils is one of the problems. In Diotorin Elementary School we use the EGRA Tool to serve as one of the bases in planning,
designing/redesigning the reading instruction of the teachers and the school’s reading programs or activities to improve the overall school’s
reading performance.

Based on the reading passages and findings of the EGRA which was conducted during October 2021 to all Grade 2 & 3 pupils, it showed
that some of the pupils don’t know the sound of the letter and its name in and there are those reading levels were frustration.

By conducting remedial instructions and distributing reading materials every grading period to those identified poor readers, the pupils
increased their reading levels from frustration to instructional and independent levels.

• Increase the reading levels of Grade 2 & 3Students from frustration to independent level.
• Develop a habit of reading among parents and students at home.

EGRA Pretest.

The reading facilitators distributed reading materials to the students every grading period. The students brought the reading materials to be read
at home with their parents.

Result and Assessment

To assess the reading levels of the students, I make a reading progress chart that show their progress from October 2021- July 2022.The
result of the reading progress is shown in the graph below.
There were 8 Grade 2 pupils and 18 Grade 3 pupils who have been part of the Reading Remediation and their Level of Comprehension
was divided into nine groups. From the pretest result it was identified that there were 8 Grade 2 pupils are non-reader and in grade 3 there are 5
non-reader, 8 pupils that can identify letter name and sound, 6 pupils that can read.
Based on the reading progress, On July 2022 after the remedial reading activities and the result of reading among the pupils gradually
improved. It shows that there are only 3 non-readers, 3 pupils that can read syllable and words and 3 pupils can read with comprehension in
Grade 2 class. In Grade 3 class there are 3 non-reader, 9 pupils that can read syllables to word and 6 pupils that have a reading comprehension.
