1. GENERAL NOTES

IMPORTANT NOTE

X-RAY EQUIPMENTS CAN BE DANGEROUS TO THE HEALTH OF BOTH PATIENTS AND

OPERATORS UNLESS PROPER SAFETY MEASURES ARE STRICTLY OBSERVED.
Although this equipment was designed and manufactured according to the most up-to-date Safety
Standards, the X-ray beam always represents a danger, should not the operator be properly qualified
and trained. Excessive exposures to X-rays cause damages to the human body: therefore, all the
necessary precautions must be taken so as to prevent unauthorized or unskilled personnel from
operating this equipment, thus jeopardizing themselves and third parties.
Before executing any operation, the personnel being authorized and qualified for using the present
equipment, must be aware of the protection measures established by the International Committee for
Radiological Protection, as well as other relevant national Standards.

NOTE: This equipment is in compliance with the requirements established by the 89/336/CEE
Directive applying to the Electromagnetic Compatibility.
In order to comply with such requirements, special technical measures were adopted (such as the
application of anti-noise filters and/or ferrites on some circuits) and precise earthing connections were
defined. Also metallic covers and their clamps are realised and checked by means of fixing devices of
special conductive material-gaskets ensuring both immunity to external sources of disturbance and
limitation of possible internal noise generated by the electric circuits.
Therefore, it is recommended that the technicians executing possible maintenance or reparation
interventions, should not modify the connections path and should carefully reconnect all
earthing connectors of the gaskets (should these ones be removed during the technical
intervention or fault research operations), as well as restore with the utmost attention the
protection gaskets in the same conditions and with the same fixing device originally foreseen.

Note: The original document was drawn up in Italian.

GENERAL MEDICAL MERATE S.p.A shall decline all and any responsibility with regard to the
good functioning of the present equipment should its installation and/or its maintenance be
executed by unauthorized personnel.

Important Note
Normally the power supply of the table is taken by a 6A, delayed 400Vac nominal, placed in the mains
supply panel board of the exam room, with intervention differential current not higher than 30mA in
compliance with IEC/CEI Standards.

In case the electrical distribution panel isn’t preset with an ON/OFF switch, the switch must be
accessible to the operator, to make him able to switch ON/OFF. the table In compliance with UL/CSA
the equipment must be supplied by two delayed fuse of 6A – 400Vac with an ON/OFF switch placed
on the exam room, The iron terminal of the equipment must be connected in a visible manner to the

3. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
Topographical disposition of the components
The table structure consists of the following components: table elevation group which is integral with
the tabletop and potter bucky; X-ray tube support stand; collimator and control console which are
integral with the X-ray assembly group.
The electrical components are properly settled inside the equipment and they are detailed in the
“Topographic Schemes” manual.

3.1. Layout of the table in the room and connections lengths

Fig. 1 Cables path and length (Figura 1), shows the layout of the table inside the room, the inputs and
outputs of the cables from the table and the available maximum lengths of the cables connecting it.
This layout is given for representative purposes only since many combinations are possible
according to the configuration and dimensions of the room. Additionally, the installation room may be
composed of several devices and it is recommended you should make reference to the related technical
manuals for their layout, cables path and lengths, etc.

- Supply cables and equipotential node:

Since we do not know what kind of supply mains board is provided in the room, please note
that for the supply cables and ground cables we are specifying the maximum available length that do
not correspond to their useful length. The supply mains board must be easily accessible to the operator
and since the equipments inside the room are live, it must be placed next to the power cabinets, plainly
visible to any technical engineer servicing the equipments in order to ensure compliance with the
Standards. For his personal safety, the engineer who has disconnected the equipments from the supply
mains must be able to check that anybody can reconnect any device: this is why should not the supply
mains board be visible to the service engineer, it will be necessary to provide it with a safety panel or
cover and ensure a warning label is stuck on it advising the engineer to lock it and remove the key
before starting any service operation on the equipments.

- Cables connecting the Table to the Generator cabinet:

The useful length of the cables between the Table and the Generator cabinet is 4mt depending
on the length of the HT cables which is 12 mt.

We suggest you should always consider at least 1 mt margin with reference to the longer lengths.

9. MOUNTING THE COLLIMATOR FLANGE

Attention! It is recommended you shall carefully follow the mounting
instructions and make sure the proper final assembly of the collimator
is executed! A wrong mounting/assembly may be dangerous involving
a possible fall of the collimator from the table.

Standard accessories being supplied together with the collimator:

No. 1 Fixed lead mounting flange, thickness: 20 mm.
No. 3 Iron spacers, thickness: 1.5 mm.

This procedure is made in order to determine the correct thickness of the spacers that must be
added to the collimator flange and as a result be able to properly position the collimator input area
at 80 mm (quote from the Focal point of the X-ray tube). To find out the right quote make
reference to the following mathematic procedure “Determination the needed mounting thickness of
the spacers ”:

DETERMINATION OF THE NEEDED MOUNTING THICKNESS QUOTE

Value between the Focal point and the collimator input area Fig. (Figura 80 .-

Value between the Focal point and the output plate of the X-ray tube, see X-
B/Figure 5 (B/Figura 30). In order to determine the (X) value, please
make reference to the X-ray tube Manual, since the (X) value varies
according to the X-ray tube model.
Value of the thickness of support of the X-ray tube (C/Figura 30) 3-
Value of the thickness of the collimator mounting flange (D/Figura 30) 20 =
The (Y) value results from this mathematic calculation and it represents Y
the value of the spacers thickness that must be added for mounting the
collimator flange.
