Hydro TEST PROCEDURE FOR BELLOW

This document provides a procedure for conducting an air tightness test on bellows. It outlines the scope, reference standards, required test equipment including a leak testing machine and pressure gauges. The process involves preparing the test items, filling with compressed air and water, and inspecting for leaks. Bellows must maintain pressure for a specified holding time without leaks in the weld areas to pass acceptance criteria. Any leaks detected would result in the bellows being marked and returned to production. Test results are documented in a report.

TIGHTNESS TEST

1.0 Scope:

This procedure describes the technique and acceptance criteria for the hydrostatic testing
of ----------------------------.

2.0 Reference codes and standards:

-ASME Section VIII,

- P.O. Tech Specification and Date sheet

3.0. Test equipment:

Leak testing machine.

Pressure indicator/Pressure gauge.
Timer/Stop watch.
Ensure the test equipment's are calibrated. (Refer the calibration Procedure: --------------).

5.0 Process Performance:

5.1 Preparation and Pre cleaning:

All Fabrication shall be completed, except for operation, which could not be performed prior
to the test such as weld end preparation. All examination have been performed except
those required after the test. All welds shall be left unpainted.

The surface to be examined shall be free from dirt, grease, preserving, welding flux, weld
spatter, oil and other matter that could interfere with the examination.

5.2 Pressure Gauges:

Dial indicating pressure gauge used for hydrostatic testing shall be graduated over a range
of about double the indented maximum test pressure, but in no case shall the range of
pressure be less than 1 1/2 nor more than 4 times the pressure. Additionally
Pressure indicating panel provided on the machine panel for better visibility to operator.

5.3 Water quality:

Clean ROwater & lubricant oil (VULSOLMSF 7200) will be

used.

Lubricants oil (2 %) mixed with water. ROwater TDS(Total Dissolved Solids) values must be
less than 100 ppm. Water used shall have chloride content less then 50 ppm or customer
requirement

5.4 Inspection procedure:

Bellow will be compressed by leak testing machine rubber sealing plate on both sides.
Some amount of compression needed to produce leak tightness.

The Sealing area must be able to absorb the axial forces resulting from the inner pressure.

After clamping the expansion joint, inside filled with compressed air. (2.0 Bar)

After that test tank will be filled by water.

Holding time details are given below:.

NUMBER OF BELLOWS LAYERS

NB
1 2 3 4 5

30-300 5'(min) 5' 10' 10' 10'

350-600 5' 5' 10' 12' 12'

650-800 5' 5' 10' 15' 15'

850-1400 10-20' 10-20' 10-20' 10-20' 10-20

If sealing not properly done pressure drop can occur so ensure the proper sealing. Then
the pressure has to be increased to test pressure again.

Then visually detect the leak (bubbles) on bellows weld joints.

5.5 Acceptance/Rejection Criteria:

No leakages are acceptable in the weld areas only and not for sealing area.

The Acceptable Parts will be marked (AT OK) by chalk piece.

Any leakages may be found in the weld joints.

1) Mark the leakage area.

2) Mark the bellows by red marker/Paint.

3) And return the part to the production i n charge.

6.0 Documentations:

The test result will confirmed by the inspector in the test report.
