TYPE TEST PROCEDURE
A. Scope:
The scope of this document is to detail the type test procedures and their results
Purpose:
Double wall tanks shall be proved tight against leakage by applying vacuum to interstitial space
while all compartments of the primary tank are vented to atmosphere.
Materials/Equipments Used:
1. Vacuum Pump
2. Vacuum Gauge
3. Valves and Hose Assembly
Standards Used:
Testing Procedure:
- Connect the vacuum source, Valves and Hose assembly to the Vacuum Nozzle so that
it is directly connected to the interstitial space of the tank.
- The Primary tank shall be vented to atmosphere during the test.
- Depressurize tank to - 5 psig maximum ( For 2.4m Dia Tank) as per table 13.1 of UL
1316.
- After reaching -5 Psig, the vacuum source shall be removed.
- The test vacuum shall be held for 30 min.
- Observe and monitor the gauge on the annular space for 30 minutes for any loss
of pressure.
- After completing vacuum test, remove all gauges, valves, and hose assemblies.

Acceptance Criteria:
- The tank shall with stand the vacuum pressure without any loss in pressure.
Purpose:
The tank shall be evaluated for damage and leakage after lifting it for at least 1 min at a
minimum load of 2 times the empty tank weight.
Materials/Equipments Used:
1. Crane
2. Lifting Belts
3. Water for tetsing
Standards Used:
Testing Procedure:
- A fitting intended to be used to lift and move a tank shall be subjected for 1 minute to
a load equal to twice that imposed by lifting the empty tank.
- Since there are 4 fitting is provided on the tank, the load is divided between the four
fittings in proportion to the loads to which they are subjected by lifting the tank as
intended.
- Fill the tank with water equivalent to the weight of the empty tank to induce twice the
weight of an empty tank.
- Lift the tank using crane for 1 minute.

Acceptance Criteria:
There shall be no failure of the permanent lifting lugs, damage to the tank wall around permanent
lugs, temporary fittings, or strap contact areas, or threaded openings used for lifting.
Unacceptable damage is defined by cracking, splitting, delamination or thread stripping.
Results:
After the test there shall be no leakage from the tank or any threaded openings used for lifting.
The leakage test shall be conducted in accordance with the Section 13, using the soap and bubble
method to ensure the same.
Purpose:
The primary tank shall withstand water load and hydrostatic pressure testing with no evidence of
leakage when conducted in accordance with the Section 13, Leakage Test.
1. Pressure Pump
2. Pressure Gauge
3. Valves and Hose Assembly
4. Water for testing
Standards Used:
Testing Procedure:
- The tank shall be buried for this test in accordance with the Section 18, Buried Tank
Load Test.
- Secondary wall shall be dry and vented during the test.
- The primary tank shall then be filled with water to maximum capacity and subjected
to an internal hydrostatic pressure of 34.5 kPa (5.0 psi) and held for 1 min.

Acceptance Criteria:
The tank shall with stand the water load and hydrostatic pressure testing with no evidence of
leakage.
Purpose:
The interstitial space of a double wall tank shall be subject to integrity test.
Standards Used:
1. Vacuum Pump
2. Vacuum Gauge
3. Valves and Hose Assembly
Testing Procedure:
- The tank shall be buried for this test in accordance with the Section 18, Buried Tank
Load Test.
- During the test, the primary tank shall be open to atmosphere, and interstitial space
shall be separately evaluated.
- For interstitial integrity, there shall be no visible leakage or loss of pressure for each
interstitial space, per Leakage Test procedure.
- Vacuum Systems at rated vacuum for at least 1 h, then an additional 17.9 kPa (2.6 psi
or 5.3 in Hg) vacuum for at least 1 s.

Acceptance Criteria:
Purpose:
The tank shall withstand the unusual loading conditions resulting from flooding at the site and
shall be tested as with no evidence of buckling, leakage, or failure
1. Test Pit
2. Anchoring system ( Turn Buckle, FRP Straps and Dead man Concrete)
3. Back fill (Sand)
4. Vacuum Gauge
5. Water.
