COT MATH Final

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for a 5th grade mathematics class on classifying polygons according to the number of sides. The lesson plan outlines objectives, content, learning resources, procedures including review, presentation, discussion, practice activities, and evaluation. The procedures section describes interactive group and individual activities to introduce and classify polygons with 5 to 10 sides, such as pentagons, hexagons, and decagons. The reflection section evaluates student learning and opportunities for remediation or improving teaching strategies.

Grade Level FIVE Date
Thursday

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of polygons
B. Performance Standards The learner is able to construct and describe polygons
C. Learning Knowledge: Classify polygons with 5 or more sides. M5GE-IIIc19
Competencies/Objectives
Write for the LC code for each Skill: Draw polygons with 5 or more sides. M5GE-IIIc-21

Attitude: Show cooperation to group activities.

II. CONTENT Classification of Polygons According to the Number of Sides

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Review previous lesson or Greetings!
presenting the new lesson
*Giving of Classroom Rules (Placed on the board)

1. L- Listen
2. B- Behave
3. C - Cooperate

*Drill:

Korek ka ba dyan?
Mechanics:
a. Group the pupils into 3.
b. Distribute boxes to each group with geometric figures such as
lines, shapes and real objects.
c. As the teacher flashes the words, the pupils will get the geometric
figures/objects from the box and put it on the board assigned for
the groups.

Valuing:
How was the activity?
Did all the members participated on the activity?
What will happen if there is cooperation?

B. Establishing a purpose for the The class will have an activity called Fix me, I’m Broken. Cut-outs
lesson where placed under the chair of the pupils that they need to form to
create a picture.

What do you see class?

How many sides are there?
What is the minimum number of sides?
What about the maximum number of sides?
How do they differ?

Presentation:
KRA 1, OBJECTIVE 1
(Although the figures used from the previous activity are grouped
C. Presenting examples/instances into two, they belong to one family of shapes called polygons.)
of the new lesson
Say: What is a polygon?

A polygon is a closed plane figure made up of several line segments

that are joined together.

The line segments are called sides of a polygon.

Triangles and quadrilaterals are the first set of polygons that you
have encountered.

How many sides does a triangle have?

How about a quadrilateral?

The teacher will introduce polygons with 5-10 sides.

How many sides does this polygon have?

Say: What do we call this polygon?

How about this one?

Classification of Polygons According to the Number of Sides

Number of Sides Name of the Polygons

5 Pentagon

6 Hexagon

7 Heptagon

8 Octagon

9 Nonagon

10 Decagon

D. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills #1 PICK ME, PUT ME WHERE I BELONG:
Number of Sides Name of the Polygons

5
Hexagon

Nonagon (nona=nine)

10

(Ask the pupils to paste the polygons to the name and number of side
they belong.)

E. Discussing new concepts and Activity: PASS AND STOP

practicing new skills #2
As the pupils sing, the first person on the right side will pass the ball
to the person next to her. When the teacher tells the pupils to stop,
the pupil holding the ball will pick an object. Afterwards, the pupil
will classify the polygon that he/she picked.

F. Developing Mastery Group the class into three according to their level of development
and learning.

Material : Cut-outs of 5-10 sided polygons.

Mechanics :
a. Group the pupils into four.
b. She or he distributes cutouts placed in an envelope.
c. Let the pupils paste the cutouts intended for the different
column as shown below.

Formulate together with the pupils the rubrics / standards for the
group activity.

G. Finding practical applications Call a leader to report for the group.

of concepts and skills in daily Ask. What are the classification of polygon according to the number
living of sides?
Let them present the polygons in front.

H. Making generalizations and What are polygons?

abstractions about the lesson What do you call a polygon with 5-sides?
Polygon with 6 sides?
How about a polygon with 7 sides?
Polygon with 8 sides?
Polygon with 9 sides?
Polygon with 10 sides?

I. Evaluating learning Directions: Draw the following polygon.

1. Octagon
2. Pentagon
3. Heptagon
4. Decagon
5. Hexagon

J. Additional activities for Directions: Name some objects in your house, in school, in your
application or remediation surroundings which are 5-10 sided polygons. Be able to draw them
on a clean bond paper.
V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned
80% in the evaluation.
B. No. of learners who require
additional activities for
remediation who scored below
80%.
C. Did the remedial lessons
work? No. of learners who have
caught up with the lesson.
D. No. of learners who continue
to require remediation.
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well? Why did
these work?
F. What difficulties did I
encounter which my principal or
supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized
materials did I use./discover which
I wish to share with other
teachers?
