I. Title
2019 SCHOOL-BASED SEMINAR-WORKSHOP ON CAMPUS JOURNALISM

II. Rationale

Schools press conferences have become an annual event organized by the


Department of Education as this was mandated by the Republic Act 7079 or the
Campus Journalism Act of 1991. The law acknowledges the importance of
campus press as manifestation of the country’s Constitutional provision on
freedom of expression and the press.

Apart from that, the Department of Education also aims in giving the
campus journalists opportunities to enable themselves in reaching the grassroots
in the community and to localize actions. Thus, they become more aware of the
real problems which lead them into formulation of solutions. ]

In order to ensure that campus journalists will acquire confidence and


skills needed in the field, School Paper Advisers should also have equal capacity
in training students, in a manner and the same way with journalists. Therefore,
Lipay National High School, being one of the excelling schools in this field, would
like to conduct partnership with actual media practitioners and experts to help
advisers with the task in improving the journalistic skills of these budding
students.

III. Objectives

This seminar-workshop aims to:

a. discuss the different genres in campus journalism and campus paper


management;

b. capacitate the school paper advisers on the current trends and new
developments in campus journalism and in digital communication, media; and

c. Provide a healthy forum in addressing issues and concerns relative to the


conduct of the District and Division Schools Press Conference (DSPSC).

IV. Target Clientele

All school paper advisers/coaches (English & Filipino) of Lipay National


High School.

Lipay National High School would like to conduct partnership with actual
media practitioners and experts to help advisers with the task in improving the
journalistic skills of these budding students.

C. Project Objective Statement

This seminar-workshop aims to:

management;

b. capacitate the school paper advisers on the current trends and new
developments in campus journalism and in digital communication, media; and

c. Provide a healthy forum in addressing issues and concerns relative to the


conduct of the District and Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).
