Basic Principles and Theories of teaching - learning social studies sciences

1. Discuss the theories and guiding  principles of Social Studies.

- The essential knowledge in the social studies is comprised of a broad and


comprehensive knowledge based on history, geography, world cultures and
the events of the past which shaped up them. Social studies is an
instruction designed with the end in the mind and used a model decision
making which reflects through provoking and orienting towards the
formation of reasoned conclusions.

1. Social studies develops Citizens through education goals. With the use of
social studies, educators prepared the learners to become a functioning
member of society and to become a committed citizens who have ideas and
value the democratic republic and able to use knowledge about their
community, nation and the world. Being a Person in a society you must have
or able gather information, able to analyze, collaborate, and able to make
decisions and solve the problems.

2. Social studies shapes students to become committed in improving based


knowledge and skills because the students are the most capable of shaping
the future and sustaining past knowledge and practices and apply it through
the other next generations.

3. National objectives of social studies:


- a good and effective citizen in a democratic society:
 Develops and inquiring mind
 Well informed and useful
 Has strong moral and spiritual values
 Etc;

- In my own insights and opinion, social studies is a study of what has been
recorded in the society and how it mus be past and pro-long by next
generations and it educates learners of how a functioning society must
works and who are involved in it. It is a science that primarily focus on
humanity.

2. Differentiate approaches, strategy and methods specifically in teaching


Social Studies.

- Some methods of teaching social studies include:


Stimulation, laboratory, inquiry, project, dramatizations, questions and
answers, field-trips, discussions, lecture, problem-solving, home
assignments and construction methods.

- There are wide variety of methods in teaching social studies and using this
in a classrooms is helpful specially if the classroom is a diverse environment.
A teacher has to make use of the most suitable method for making his/her
teaching, must be meaningful, purposeful, interesting and effective because
it can help to avoid the boredom in the classroom that leads to students not
being able to apply to their selves of what are being teach to them.
- Having a strategies helps the teachers to plans their lesson by giving a road
map to follow. It also helps the teacher to deliver their lesson more effectively
and in an organized manner. Good teaching strategies greatly helps the
teacher to manage the classrooms, keep students attention and able to
meets the needs of all the students
