Use the simple present to talk about things that are true in general
.or that happen all the time
‫اﺳﺗﺧدم اﻟﻣﺿﺎرع اﻟﺑﺳﯾط ﻟﻠﺗﺣدث ﻋن اﻷﺷﯾﺎء اﻟﺻﺣﯾﺣﺔ ﺑﺷﻛل ﻋﺎم أو اﻟﺗﻲ ﺗﺣدث طوال اﻟوﻗت‬.

Time Expressions for the Present


(‫ﺗﻌﺎﺑﯾر اﻟوﻗت ﻟزﻣن اﻟﺣﺎﺿر )اﻟﻣﺿﺎرع‬

.We can use time expressions to talk about routines or habits


‫ﯾﻣﻛﻧﻧﺎ اﺳﺗﺧدام ﺗﻌﺑﯾرات اﻟوﻗت ﻟﻠﺣدﯾث ﻋن اﻟروﺗﯾن أو اﻟﻌﺎدات‬.

:‫اﻷﻣﺛﻠﺔ‬
He works at the hospital from Sunday to Thursday.
.‫ﯾﻌﻣل ﻓﻲ اﻟﻣﺳﺗﺷﻔﻰ ﻣن اﻷﺣد إﻟﻰ اﻟﺧﻣﯾس‬

He works at the hospital on weekdays.


.‫ﻛﺎن ﯾﻌﻣل ﻓﻲ اﻟﻣﺳﺗﺷﻔﻰ ﻓﻲ أﯾﺎم اﻷﺳﺑوع‬

He doesn’t work on the weekend.


.‫إﻧﮫ ﻻ ﯾﻌﻣل ﻓﻲ ﻋطﻠﺔ ﻧﮭﺎﯾﺔ اﻷﺳﺑوع‬

.In his free time, he plays football

Wh- Questions in the Simple Present
‫أدوات اﻟﺳؤال ﻓﻲ زﻣن اﻟ ُﻣﺿﺎرع اﻟﺑﺳﯾط‬

Q: Where does he/she work?
A: He/She works in a hospital.
‫ ھﻲ ﺗﻌﻣل؟‬/ ‫ أﯾن ھو‬:‫س‬
.‫ ھﻲ ﺗﻌﻣل ﻓﻲ اﻟﻣﺳﺗﺷﻔﻰ‬/ ‫ ھو‬:‫ج‬
Q: Where do you/they work?
A: I/They work in an office.

‫ ﺗﻌﻣل؟‬/ ‫ أﯾن ﺗﻌﻣل‬:‫س‬


.‫ ھم ﯾﻌﻣﻠون ﻓﻲ اﻟﻣﻛﺗب‬/‫ أﻧﺎ أﻋﻣل‬:‫ج‬
Q: What do you do?
A: I’m a salesperson.

‫ ﻣﺎذا ﺗﻔﻌل؟‬:‫س‬

What do you do? usually means What’s your job?


‫ﺗﻌﻧﻲ ﻋﺎدة ﻣﺎ ھﻲ وظﯾﻔﺗك؟‬
Prepositions of Time for the Present
(‫ﺣروف ﺟر اﻟوﻗت ﻟﻠﺣﺎﺿر )اﻟﻣﺿﺎرع‬
(at, in, and on)

Look at these examples to understand when we use prepositions


to talk about time:
:‫اﻧظر إﻟﻰ ھذه اﻷﻣﺛﻠﺔ ﻟﺗﻔﮭم ﻣﺗﻰ ﻧﺳﺗﺧدم ﺣروف اﻟﺟر ﻟﻠﺗﺣدث ﻋن اﻟوﻗت‬

:‫اﻷﻣﺛﻠﺔ‬
at three o’clock, noon/ midnight/ midday/ night

in the morning/ afternoon/ evening

on Thursday, weekdays, Saturday morning, weekends, the weekend


Relative pronouns

Relative Pronouns: Who, That, Which
who, that, which :‫ﺿﻣﺎﺋر اﻟوﺻل‬

Relative clauses add information about a noun in the main clause.


.‫ﺿﻣﺎﺋر اﻟوﺻل ُﺗﺿﯾف ﻣﻌﻠوﻣﺎت ﻋن اﻻﺳم ﻓﻲ اﻟﺟﻣﻠﺔ اﻟرﺋﯾﺳﯾﺔ‬

Use the relative pronoun who or that for people.


.‫ اﺳﺗﺧدم ﺿﻣﯾر اﻟوﺻل اﻟذي‬who ‫ أو‬that ‫ﻟﻠﻧﺎس‬.

Use the relative pronoun that or which for things and animals.
.‫ ﻟﻸﺷﯾﺎء واﻟﺣﯾواﻧﺎت‬that ‫ أو‬which ‫اﺳﺗﺧدم ﺿﻣﯾر اﻟوﺻل‬

:‫اﻷﻣﺛﻠﺔ‬
The man was talking to the tourists. He was friendly.
.‫ ﻛﺎن ودود‬.‫اﻟرﺟل ﻛﺎن ﯾﺗﺣدث ﻟﻠﺳﺎﺋﺣﯾن‬

The man who/that was talking to the tourists was friendly. (relative
clause)
(‫ )اﻟﺟﻣﻠﮫ اﻟﻧﺳﺑﯾﮫ‬.‫اﻟرﺟل اﻟذي ﻛﺎن ﯾﺗﺣدث ﻟﻠﺳﺎﺋﺣﯾن ﻛﺎن ودو ًدا‬

The computer company is making a good profit. It is called Easy


Surf.
.Easy Surf ‫ ُﺗﺳﻣﻰ‬.ً‫ﺷرﻛﺔ اﻟﻛﻣﺑﯾوﺗر ﺗﺣﻘق رﺑﺣً ﺎ ﺟﯾدا‬

The computer company that/which is making a good profit is called


Easy Surf.

Past Progressive with While
‫اﻟﻣﺎﺿﻲ اﻟﻣﺳﺗﻣر ﻣﻊ ﺑﯾﻧﻣﺎ‬
We can use the past progressive with while to talk about actions that
were happening at the same time:
‫( ﯾُﻣﻛﻧﻧﺎ اﺳﺗﺧدام اﻟﻣﺎﺿﻲ اﻟﻣُﺳﺗﻣر ﻣﻊ‬while = ‫ﻟﻠﺣدﯾث ﻋن اﻷﺣداث اﻟﺗﻲ ﻛﺎﻧت ﺗﺣدث ﻓﻲ )ﺑﯾﻧﻣﺎ‬
:‫ﻧﻔس اﻟوﻗت‬

:‫اﻷﻣﺛﻠﺔ‬
(‫)ﻻﺣظ أن اﻟﺟُﻣل اﻟﺗﺎﻟﯾﺔ ﻛل ﻣﻧﮭﺎ ﯾﺣﺗوي ﻋﻠﻰ ﺣدﺛﯾن اﺛﻧﯾن ﻓﻲ ﯾﺣدﺛﺎن ﻓﻲ ﻧﻔس اﻟوﻗت‬

Mohammed was working on the computer while his brother was


talking on the phone.
.‫ﻛﺎن ﻣﺣﻣد ﯾﻌﻣل ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﻛﻣﺑﯾوﺗر ﺑﯾﻧﻣﺎ ﻛﺎن ﺷﻘﯾﻘﮫ ﯾﺗﺣدث ﻋﺑر اﻟﮭﺎﺗف‬

While you were working at the photography studio, I was studying


graphic design at college.
‫ ﻛﻧت أدرس ﺗﺻﻣﯾم اﻟرﺳوم اﻟﺑﯾﺎﻧﯾﺔ ﻓﻲ‬، ‫ﺑﯾﻧﻣﺎ ﻛﻧت ﺗﻌﻣل ﻓﻲ اﺳﺗودﯾو اﻟﺗﺻوﯾر اﻟﻔوﺗوﻏراﻓﻲ‬
.‫اﻟﻛﻠﯾﺔ‬

They were waiting for their father at the office while their father
was waiting for them at home.

While she was talking with her sister downstairs, her mother was
looking for her upstairs.
