Post-Graduate Level Nursing Leadership Discussion: A Culture of Excellence

Question 1

By improving safety and quality in healthcare through effective and clear

communication, firms can develop a culture of excellence that is founded in trust that ensures

that individuals, families, and care providers are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Omachonu (2018) stated that a culture of excellence is transmitted through the mission and

vision statements as well as the organizational values. In Mayo Clinic, a culture of excellence is

conveyed in the manner in which the organization works to inspire hope and contribute to the

wellness of people through quality care. Also, a culture of excellence in Mayo Clinic is

transmitted through its vision statement that is to be a trusted partner for healthcare. The

organization also values the recognition that the needs of people are the priority.

Question 2

The mission, vision, and values of Mayo Clinic are similar to my individual philosophy

in that they communicate the initiatives that empower dedicated healthcare professionals to

improve patient and provider satisfaction and develop a culture of excellence, safety, and trust

through empathy. These initiatives and other factors will allow the care providers to meet the

needs of patients, their families, and society.

Question 3

The mission and vision of Mayo Clinic were reflected in the organizational culture and

leadership as the organization has created networks that present opportunities to efficiently and

collaboratively address communication and operational issues with long-term, sustainable

3

solutions. Mayo Clinic also focuses on internal training to ensure that care providers build these

values through their skills and experiences.

Question 4

The transformational leadership approach is one of the approaches that can support a

culture of excellence. Transformational leadership supports excellence by endorsing clear and

effective communication in relation to promoting quality and safety of care. As a master of

science in nursing (MSN), a transformational leadership style will be crucial in driving

innovation forward while managing changes across the field.
