Electrical Panel GAD
Any electrical panel's general arrangement drawing is composed primarily of the three items listed
below.
1. Front view (Elevation)
2. Bottom and Top views (Plan)
3. Side view
Front View or Elevation refers to the image that is seen when you stand in front of a panel and gaze at
it. The image that will appear in front of your eyes while viewing a panel from above is referred to as
the top view, and the image that will appear when viewing the panel from below is referred to as the
bottom view. And side view refers to the image that results from viewing something from the side.
It is crucial to initially take into account the installation location for the panel as well as the
measurements that must be included in the drawing when generating the general arrangement
drawing for the electrical panel. For you to open the door and do the necessary maintenance and
operation duties, the location where the panel will be installed needs to have enough space in the
front and back.

Information from GAD
Apart from the views, the GAD shall provide the following information for a particular Assembly :
1. General Information – Legends, Fabrication & Painting details, Assembly details, Wiring
configuration, and Testing of assembly.
2. Forms of construction & IP rating.
3. Dimension of the panel with all compartmental details.
4. Elevation, Top/ Bottom View & Side View.
5. Switchgears, Meters, Indicating Lamps, Operating handles/knobs & Selector Switches.
6. Mimic Diagram.
7. Cable Entry.
8. Rectangular Bus bar sizes.
9. Bus duct end flange connection details.
10. SLD.
11. Details of feeders, Switchgear type and rating, Feeder naming, Busduct connection details & Cable
connection details.
12. Bill of Materials (BOM).
13. SLD of Power, Metering, Protection & Indicating circuit.
14. SLD of Control Circuit.
15. Terminal Details – Marshalling Unit.
IP Rating
IP rating stands for “ingress protection rating.” This international standard lets you tell how effective a
light (or another item) seals against moisture and dirt. The IP rating features two numbers indicating
protection against solids (like dust) and humidity.
