Considering the history of Cooperative Education and its advantages to the students, cite some
reforms or programs that are being undertaken in the Philippines.

1. Student Internship Program of the Philippines and 21st Century Competencies: Basis for
the Improvement of On-the-job Training

Description: The study assessed the compliance with the criteria on the conduct of on-the-job
training programs provided in CHED MEMO Order 23, s.2009 of six (6) College of Arts and
Sciences degree requirements as perceived by student interns. Twenty-first Century
competencies served as the framework. The study used a researcher-made instrument and
descriptive statistics to gather and analyzed data. The study also discovered that collaboration;
citizenry, social responsibility, and global awareness; critical thinking and analysis, decision-
making, and problem solving; speaking skill; and writing skill as very frequently applied
competencies. The result suggests the necessity to improve on the aspect of providing
incentives during on-the-job training. The result also shows the need to improve the frequently
applied competencies in the workplaces.

2. Government Internship Program (GIP)

Description: Provides opportunities and engage beneficiaries to serve the general public in
government agencies/entities projects and programs at the national and local level with target
beneficiaries of 100,163 youth beneficiaries and will be implemented by DOLE

3. Internship Programmes at UNODC Philippines Office

Description: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) accept unpaid interns on
an ad hoc basis. The purpose of our Programme is to offer students from diverse academic
backgrounds an educational experience through practical work assignments within the
international environment of the UN, while offering the United Nations the assistance of
qualified students specializing in various professional fields.
