1. Introduction
It is a mandatory task to perform a research project/thesis for the students of EEE to
achieve graduation degree. All the students of EEE department have to conduct a field
research/project in their chosen field and need to write a report. Planning for this work
will be initiated during the elective period along with a faculty advisor. A complete
report guideline is discussed in this manuscript. This manuscript will serve as reference
for the both faculties and students. Students are strongly advised to read throughout this
manuscript very carefully.

2. Project/Thesis Completion Steps

A project/thesis registered student have to follow the subsequent steps to complete
project/thesis successfully.

3. Grading policy
Project/Thesis committee and the supervisor will evaluate the Project/Thesis. In this
regard, the weight of marks distribution will be as follows:

Counselling Session 10%

Pre Defense 10%
Report evaluated by project/thesis committee (Report format & quality) 20%
Final Defense (Presentation, Project Demonstration, Question & Answer) 30%
Supervisor 30%
Total 100%

4. Project/Thesis Presentation (Defending the Research Project/Thesis)

Students have to prepare a power point presentation slide on their project/thesis
outcome and have to present it during pre-defense and final defense in front of
Project/thesis defense board. The department Head will assign the defense board
members. One or more external members may be included in the committee. The total
number of slides will be approximately 10-15, in which must include the following
topics:

SL Slide Topics Content in slide

• Presenter (Name and ID)
• Supervisor (Name and Designation)
2. Outline of Presentation • Show how you organize your presentation.
3. Introduction • Introduction
• Objective of your project/thesis
4. Proposed Design/System • Block Diagram

[N.B: The above slide topics could be varied depending on your requirement.]

5. Duration of Project/Thesis [Draft: Not finalized yet]

For the purpose of fulfilling degree requirement, student must have to complete
Project/Thesis under the supervisor for 12 weeks in the semester in which s/he is
registered. After the completion of the Project/Thesis, students have to face defense on
the scheduled date and have to submit reports to the concerned program office within

14 weeks of the semester in which they are registered. If any student fails to submit
his/her report or fails to attend the defense on the scheduled date, his/her registration
semester of Project/Thesis will automatically be shifted to the subsequent semester
accordingly and s/he must submit report and face defense on the scheduled date of the
subsequent semester. Student has to pay semester fee and extracurricular fee of an
amount of BDT 1500 for prolonging. In case of failing to submit report and face defense
in the subsequent semester, student(s) will be assigned ‘F’ grade. Then s/he has to
retake/reregister Project/Thesis paying requisite fees.

15. Main body of the Report

Consist of several chapters each describing distinct parts of the work, such as analytical
work, numerical work, experimental work, and presentation and discussion of results
from which the conclusions and recommendations are subsequently derived.

Chapter 1: Introduction
The introduction serves to set the scene or scope of the intended goal. It identifies the
overall theme of the work and will usually explain the needs that have led to the project
proposal. This chapter describes the background and the relevant information for this
Thesis/Project work by briefly introducing the field and explaining the principal

research problem. The objectives of this thesis are also presented in brief. Finally, a
concise outline of the thesis is provided at the end of the chapter. This chapter should
include at least 5-10 references related to the research project/thesis.

Chapter 2: Literature Review

A review of the literatures that found in the research area, with particular emphasis on
theories and debates on the subject should be included in this chapter with appropriate
references. A review of the methods those used to carry out this research with a
discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the approach followed and the
approaches rejected will also be placed here. This will place the research into a broader
academic context and may give a theory or hypothesis that someone wishes to test in
empirical research.

Chapter 3: Methodology/ Experimental Design

This chapter introduces about the required components and software to design our
proposed system. The specification and fundamental ideas of each components is
mentioned briefly in this chapter. This chapter also explains what you did and how you
did it, allowing readers to evaluate the reliability and validity of your thesis/project. A
detail analysis of theoretical studies, proposed circuit diagram, Simulation and
implementation of proposed system should be placed in this chapter.

Chapter 4: Results and Discussion

An account of what found from this study and a more critical analysis of the results in
which someone discuss the results in the context of the original aims should be placed
in this chapter.

Chapter 5: Conclusion and Recommendations

A brief summary of the findings and recommendations for future work should be
included in this chapter. The Conclusion is a short summary of the results of the work,
no more than one page long. The Conclusion should follow naturally from the
Discussion. It should give a concise statement of what has been achieved. Anticipated
applications of techniques developed should be summarized very briefly. The
Conclusion should be self-contained, i.e., it should not make reference to any sections,
figures, or references in the report. The reader must be able to understand the
Conclusion having read only the Abstract.

[Please note that the above chapters could be varied depending on the report.]

thanks to our head of the department Md. Humayun Kabir Khan, Assistant Professor,
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of City University for his precious
advises, fruitful suggestions and coordination. We would like to express our heartiest
gratitude to Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Huamaun Kabir, Dean, Faculty of Science &
Engineering, City University for allowing us to do the projects. We are also grateful to
all the faculties of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of City
University, Bangladesh for giving us the opportunity to complete the work and
necessary support during the period. This thesis work would not have been possible
without the encouragement, logical help and advice from our friends. We are grateful
to them. Finally, we must acknowledge with due respect the constant support and
patience of our parents.

ABSTRACT
[Each copy of project/thesis report must contain an abstract. The abstract is a summary
of the work’s significant contents and should contain a short statement of the problem,
a brief discussion of the methods and procedures used in gathering data, a summary of
the finding and the results obtained. This should be occupy single page and not more
than 150 words. The abstract does not have subdivisions.]

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION [18 points, TNR, Uppercase, centered]

[Heading: 14 points, TNR]

1.1 Introduction
The introduction serves to set the scene or scope of the intended goal. It identifies the
overall theme of the work and will usually explain the needs that have led to the project
[12 point, TNR,
Line space 1.5 ] proposal. This chapter describes the background and the relevant information for this
Thesis/Project work by briefly introducing the field and explaining the principal
research problem. The objectives of this thesis are also presented in brief. Finally, a
concise outline of the thesis is provided at the end of the chapter. This chapter should
include at least 10-15 references related to the thesis/project.

1.2 Background of the Study

More than 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water with nearly 97% seas and
oceans [1]. The environment in underwater holds a great deal of uncertainty and
potentially hostile in many cases for human being. However, this huge underwater area
is abundant in natural resources, both marine life and minerals. Furthermore, if we can
closely monitor the seismic activity in underwater, it would be possible to predict the
tsunami as well as the earthquake.

CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY/ EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN

This chapter introduces about the required components and software to design our
proposed system. The specification and fundamental ideas of each components is
mentioned briefly in this chapter. This chapter also explains what you did and how you
did it, allowing readers to evaluate the reliability and validity of your thesis/project.
