1 Before upgrade

1) You need the following items

YOU MUST HAVE

1.

External DVD/ CD-Drive

2.

DISK 1: windows XP disk

3.

DISK 2: Software disk M5

Note:

1. Please read M5 User Manual Basic Volume, for compatible CD-Drive. Plus, the following
models, which are available on market, have been proven compatible.

1. Samsung SE-S184M

2. Please inquire Mindray Service Department to obtain upgrade disks or download disk image
files from designated website and restore them onto disks by yourself.
3. If you choose to download software package from website, please restore bootable CD1 from
CD1.ISO (CD image file) by CD burning software such as NERO and burn the contents
extracted from CD2.zip into CD2.

2) You should know: Point 1

User preset data will be deleted after upgrade.

We strongly recommend do backup before upgrade.

How to back up user preset data to USB stick?

Press [Setup] key
[Manage settings] menu
[Export all] menu (on the bottom left)
Give a name for the preset data file. Select drive of USB stick. Click “OK”.

How to reload user preset data?

[Import all] on [manage settings] page
Click on the saved data file in USB stick.
After loading bar is complete, job’s done.

3) You should know: Point 2

Patient data including patient info, images, cine loops and reports
are safely preserved after upgrade.
For security reasons, we recommend do backup before upgrade.

4) You should know: Point 3

Upgrade data for M5 and DC-3 are not compatible.

2 Single upgrade keyboard software (IF

We should upgrade keyboard software first, otherwise upgrade Doppler will indicate that system is not
compatible.

(1) The upgrade file “M5_A.KUG” is included in DISK 2: Software disk V06.04.00.5465. Please put it
into DVD-drive and connect to M5.

(2) Power on M5 and let it work normal in B mode

(3) press <Setup> button on keyboard, entering the setup menu.

In the setup menu, select [Maintenance].

A dialog box is popping up, asking Password.

In the password dialog, enter the maintenance password 58127158. After click [OK] button, the
maintenance menu shows.
(4) Then press<ctrl>+<shift>+<8>on the main panel, then you will find another [Update], select it.

Not this one

Locate the upgrade file which is contained in the DVD drive, which is drive F: or drive G:

Look for folder “M5 keyboard file”, double click this folder, look for file “M5_A.KUG.” Click on it
and Click [OK]. After that, System will run upgrade process automatically until a dialog box pops up:
Update finish. Please reboot.

(5) Restart the system to let take effect.

(6) Shut down the system.

3 Single upgrade ECG software-

software- Optional
If M5 is connected with ECG module, we should run ECG software upgrade in this version. If the M5 is
not connected with ECG module, we just ignore this step and start with XP recovery.

(1) The upgrade file “M5.ECG” is included in folder “ECG software” of DISK 2: Software disk
V06.04.00.5465. Please put it into DVD-drive and connect to M5.

(2) Power on M5 and let it work normal in B mode

(3) press <Setup> button on keyboard, entering the setup menu.

In the setup menu, select [Maintenance].

A dialog box is popping up, asking Password.

In the password dialog, enter the maintenance password 58127158. After click [OK] button, the
maintenance menu shows.
(4) Then press<ctrl>+<shift>+<8>on the main panel, then you will find another [Update], select it.

Note: If there is no ECG module connected, but we ran the ECG software upgrade, then there is Error
generated as below. Take it easy. We just continue upgrade other software.

4 UPGRADE STEP Three – Preparation for XP recovery

(1) Connect External DVD/CD Drive with M5 through USB port.

Note: Connect external Drive power if required.

(2) Put DISK 1: Windows XP disk into DVD/CD Drive disk compartment.
(3) The whole upgrade process lasts more than half an hour. Ensure M5 power can hold up that
far, otherwise, plugging power adapter is recommended.

5 UPGRADE STEP
STEP Four – change BIOS setting to boot from CD
(1) Switch on M5.
(2) Startup screen is showing like below boot picture.

(3) When progress bar is moving, before system goes to next boot picture, repeatedly press [F2] key until
BIOS password key-in screen shows up.

(4) Input password 58125837or 84315837.

(5) Set BIOS parameters as follows:

Use arrow keys left and right to select [Boot] menu

Use arrow key up and down to select [Boot order], press Enter.

Use arrow key up and down to select [USB CDROM]

Press and hold ‘SHIFT’ key and click ‘+’ key (plus key) to move [USB CDROM] all the way up to the
first place;

Press “ESC” key to exit. Select [Exit] menu,

Use arrow key up and down to select [Save changes], click Enter.

Select “Save CMOS To Flash”, click Enter.

Press any key (within Alphanumeric keyboard area) to continue

Select [Exit Saving Changes], click Enter.

System automatic restarts.

6 UPGRADE STEP Five---

Five--- Windows XP System Update
Update

(1) System is Restarting. After the first boot picture disappears, screen blacks out till it shows
“Press any key to boot CD…”
The message slips through in a very short period, approx 2 seconds. Please take chance to
press any key on Alphanumeric keyboard.

(2) System is automatic installing. Shortly after Windows XP system booting picture disappears,
a DOS window shows like below:

(3) Press any key on alphanumeric keyboard. XPE installation process lasts about 5-10 minutes.
Please do not interrupt the installation.
(4) After installation is complete, DOS message shows like below:

(5) Press any key on alphanumeric keyboard. System’s automatic restarting.

(6) During starting, after the first boot picture disappears, you see the message “Press any key to
boot CD…” one more time, please do not do anything this time, otherwise, system would
install Windows XP once again.
(7) After this screen, you see Windows XP system booting picture, shortly after that, system
enters Windows XP desktop.

7 UPGRADE STEP Six --- Doppler Update

(1) Take out DISK 1, put DISK 2: Software disk V06.04.00.5465 into DVD/CD disk
compartment.
(2) After a few minutes, system is automatic running install process like below:

(3) The install process lasts about 10-15 minutes.

(4) When the installation is complete, a DOS message “System need reboot! Please input Enter
key to quit the Program!” shows like below:

(5) Press “ENTER” key on alphanumeric keyboard to quit the program.

(6) Shut down Windows.

8 UPGRADE STEP Seven --- change BIOS setting to disable booting

booting from CD
(1) Switch on system. When the first boot picture progress bar is moving, before system goes to next
boot picture, repeatedly press [F2] key until BIOS password key-in screen shows up.

(2) Input password 58125837or 84315837.

(3) Set BIOS parameters as follows:

Use arrow keys left and right to select [Boot] menu
Use arrow key up and down to select [Boot order], press Enter.

Use arrow key up and down to select [USB CDROM]

Click ‘-’ key (minus key) to move [USB CDROM] all the way down below hard disk like below “IDE 1:
Hitachi HTS541680J9SA00TB”.

Press “ESC” key to exit. Select [Exit] menu,

Use arrow key up and down to select [Save changes], click Enter.

Select “Save CMOS To Flash”, click Enter.

Press any key (within Alphanumeric keyboard area) to continue

System automatic restarts.

After that, system enters ultrasound environment directly.

9 UPGRADE STEP Nine---

Nine--- load preset data

(1) If you prefer your own preset data, reload your saved preset data as follows:
Press [Setup] key
[Manage settings] menu
[Export all] menu (on the bottom left)
Click on the saved data file in USB stick.
After loading bar is complete, job’s done.

(2) Generally speaking, in every single upgrade, Mindray releases new factory preset data with
better compatibility and more powerful features. So we recommend you load factory data
instead of your own.
How to load factory default preset data?
Press [Setup] key
[Manage settings] menu
[restore factory] menu (on the bottom center)

Reboot to take effect.
