Scrapbook Rubric

This rubric outlines the criteria and scoring for a scrapbook project on a novel. It provides descriptors for what is required to earn a score between A and F. For an A, the scrapbook must meet all listed criteria including having at least 7 pages, a creative cover, inclusion of themes, symbols, characters analysis, literary devices and more. Points are deducted for missing criteria, with more points deducted the lower the score level. Late projects receive a 20 point deduction.

Scrapbook Rubric

This rubric will be used to grade the projects listed above. Please note that a student will lose 2 points for each
check under the B criteria, 4 points for each check under the C criteria, 6 points for each check under the D criteria,
and 8 points for each check under the F criteria. Late projects will receive a -20 point deduction.

Score Points: Descriptors:


A (93-100)  Your scrapbook has at least 7 pages.
 Your scrapbook has a creative, illustrated cover and a title.
Work at this  You have included each of the novel’s themes.
level develops  You have included at least 3 symbols.
and enriches  You have included a character analysis of the protagonist and at least one other
ideas effectively character from the novel.
and creatively.  You have included at least 5 different literary devices.
 You have included a visual depiction of the effect of the setting on the protagonist.
 You have included at least 1 major conflict.
 You have at least 3 characteristics of the author’s style.
 Each entry has the required number of quotations.
 You have documented your quotations in MLA format with correct parenthetical
references.
 Each entry includes a symbolic picture or drawing.
 Each entry includes a written explanation of at least a substantial paragraph.
 The scrapbook is bound in a folder.
 The scrapbook is neat.
 You have used color.
 Your word choice uses vivid verbs and adjectives.
 You do not use slang outside of direct quotations.
 Your grammar is correct.
 You do not have any fragments, or run-on sentences.
 Your capitalization, punctuation, and spelling are correct.
 Your scrapbook is written legibly in ink or is typed.
B (85-92)  Your scrapbook has at least 7 pages.
-2 points for  Your scrapbook has a cover with a title on it (not illustrated or is clip art of novel cover).
