7 Es Lesson Plan

The document outlines a learning plan for a mathematics lesson on probability of a union of two events. It includes eliciting prior knowledge from students, engaging them in an activity to identify possible events, exploring real-life examples of experiments with multiple events, and explaining the formula for probability of a union of two events using examples. Students will then apply their understanding by illustrating the probability of a union of two events in an activity.

LESSON FLOW MODE OF DELIVERY OBJECTIVES ACTIVITIES

ELICIT (5 min) Online/ face to face Illustrate what is a Drill:
union of two events.
A. What is this?
F={apple , strawberry , orange , mango }
How about this?
V = { squash , petchay , carrot , cabbage }
If I combine the elements of both sets, what set operation
will I use?
Very Good! It is union!

Review the previous lesson:

What is union?
How about intersection?

Motivation:

Now, we will have a game. You need to tell the name of

the following Mobile Legend Heroes and identify their
role/s and specialties.
What did you notice in the game? Share your thoughts or
observations.
ENGAGE (8 mins) ONLINE Illustrate and identify all the Ask:
possible events. Use Classpoint
Let the students answer the following questions:
1. Is there a chance that a marksman could be a tank?
Supports could be Mage? Fighter could be Assassin?
If yes, give/identify the heroes in the mobile legends
with their roles to support your answer. You may
send using their pictures with their respected roles.
2. Is there a chance that a hero could be a marksman
and could damage enemy at the same time? How
about a tank that could regen?

(Appreciate the answers of the students by praising them).

Great Job!
EXPLORE (7 ONLINE Illutrates events in real-life Use Classpoint
mins) problems. Let the students explore real-life situations containing two or
more events.

Ask the following:

A.
1. Give at least three experiments that could have two or
more events.
(Example: Tossing a Coin )
2. From your answers, give all the possible events in the
experiments.
(Example: Coin, Head/Tail )
B. Use Wordcloud in Classpoint
What comes into your mind when you hear “ union of two
events”
ELABORATE/ EXPLAIN Face to face Illustrates the probability of Probability of a Union of Two Events:
( 18 mins) union of two events
P(A ᴗ B)= P(A) + P(B) - P(A ᴖ B)
a b c
Example 1. What is the probability of “getting a number divisible
by 3 or even” in rolling a die?

Let: D be the set of numbers in a die divisible by 3.

E be the set of getting even numbers.

P(D ᴗ E)= P(D) + P(E) - P(D ᴖ E)

a b c
In rolling a die, the possible 6 outcomes are as follows: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
6.

Answers:
a. P(D)= {3, 6} = 2/6 2 elements out of 6.
b. P(E)= {2, 4, 6} = 3/6 3 elements out of 6.
c. P(D ᴖ E) = {6} = 1/6 1 element out of 6.
d. P(D ᴗ E) = P(D) + P(E) - P(D ᴖ E)
= (3/6)+( 2/6) – (1/6)
= (5/6)-(1/6)

P(D ᴗ E ) = 4/6 = 2/3 or 66.67%

Example 2. What is the probability of “getting even number or

greater than 5” in the first 10 counting numbers?

Let: E be the set containing even numbers.

G be the numbers greater than 5.

P(E ᴗ G)= P(E) + P(G) - P(E ᴖ G)

a b c
The 10 possible outcomes in the first 10 counting numbers are as
follows 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Answers:
a. P(E)= {2,4,6,8,10} = 5/10 5 elements out of 10.
b. P(G)= {6,7,8,9,10} = 5/10 5 elements out of 10.
c. P(E ᴖ G) = { 6,8,10}= 3/10 3 elements out of 10.
d. P(E ᴗ G) = P(E) + P(G) - P(E ᴖ G)
= (5/10) + (5/10) – (3/10)
= (10/10) - (3/10)

P(E ᴗ G ) = 7/10 or 70%

Example 3. Find P(A ∪ B) in the word BEAUTIFUL.

A = {letters in the word BEAT}
B = {letters in the word BUILT}
Answers:
a. P(A) = 4/9 Four out of 9 letters in the sample space.

b. P(B) = 5/9 Five out of 9 letters in the sample space.

c. P(A ∩ B) = 2/9 Two letters are common in the events.

d. P(A Ս B) = P(A)+P(B)- P(A ∩ B)

= (4/9) + (5/9) - (2/9)

= (9/9) – (2/9) = 7/9 or 77.78%

Example 4. Let U = {x/x Z, 0 x 10}. Find P(A Ս B).

A = {1,2,3,4,5} B = {0,2,4,6,8}

Answers:
a. P(A) = 5/10 Five out of 10 numbers in the sample space.
b. P(B) = 5/10 Five out of 10 numbers in the sample space.
c. P(A ∩ B) = 2/10 Two numbers are common in the events.

d. P(A Ս B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A ∩ B)

= (5/10) + (5/10) – (2/10)

=(10/10) – (2/10)

P(A Ս B) = 8/10 or 80%
