PRAYER
Lord, thank You for all the blessing that You have given to me and to my family. Thank You
for making me feel the love of my parents, friends, and teachers in order to make me do my best in
everything that I do. Lord, I ask You to continue supporting me as I worked on this module about
Adding and Subtracting. Help me in learning my lessons so that my teacher’s effort will paid off. I ask
this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
INTRODUCTION
Numbers play an important role in our daily life. Almost all the things we do in our life involves
numbers and mathematics such as buying goods using money, your weight and height, number of
people who liked your post, number of chapters of your favorite story in Wattpad, channel of your favorite
show, and number of pages of your books. However, before anyone can understand and use
mathematics, the clear concept of numbers must be necessary.
In this lesson, we will strengthen your skills in four fundamental operations involving integers.
Furthermore, as you go along this module, you will have to explore the answers to the following questions:
Learning targets
Learning Competency:
At the end of the topic, I can:
Arrange the numbers in EACH BOX below from least to greatest, and drag along the corresponding
letters. What message is revealed? Afterwards, put the numbers in their correct position.

Now that we are done with our short review about number line, explain in your own words and
understanding context behind the number line write your answer in the info-bit box below.
You have done a great job. It is a good thing that you tried to look
back the words that very much related to real numbers and still
remembers number line. This knowledge will help you unlock the next task
and future topics in mathematics 7. So, bear in mind all the topics that
you will learn.
What is an Integer?
Integers
An integer is a number with no decimal or fraction part and it includes negative and
positive numbers, including zero. A few examples of integers are -5, 0, 1, 5, 8, 97, and 3,034.
A set of integers, which is represented as Z, includes:
Learning Task 2:
Let’s Color!
Now let us go deeper in real numbers. Let us focus first on integers and
embellish the figure at the right side by coloring it. Before that, see first the example
below and for more examples, watch the video from
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BgblvF90UE or scan the provided QR code.
After watching, just follow the instruction below and let’s start adding and
subtracting integers.
INSTRUCTION:

Go! I know you are artistic,
finish coloring.
−29 − 1 = ______
14 + 28 = ______
Color it with RED
37 − (−19) = ______
Color it with VIOLET
-30 24 + (−13) = ______

Process Questions:
1. In your own words and understanding, how is adding like and unlike signs being done?

2. Explain briefly, how to subtract integers having like and unlike signs?

What is it?
a. 27 + 41 a. -65 +87
b. -39 + (-56) b. 79 + (-90)
Solution: Solution:
a. The addends have the same sign. Use the rule a. The addends have different signs. Use rule 2.
1. The common sign is +.
|−65|= 65 and |87| =87
27 + 41 = + (|27| + |41|)
=+(27 + 41) 87-65 =22
= +68 (or simply 68)
Since 87 has greater absolute value than -65, affix the
b. The addends have the same sign. Use the rule positive sign to the difference of their absolute values.
1. The common sign is -. Therefore,
-39 +(-56) = -(|−39| + |−56|)
-65+87 = +22 (or simply 22)
= - (39 + 56)
= -95 b. the addends have different signs. Use rule 2.
90 – 79 = 11
Since -90 has greater absolute value than 79, affix the
negative sign to the difference of their absolute
values. Therefore,
79 + (-90) = -11
What’s more?
In subtracting an integer from another integer, add the opposite of the subtrahend
to the minuend.
Illustrative Example 3:
Subtract 12 from 8
Solution
The minuend is 8 and the subtrahend is 12. Write the subtraction problem, then rewrite it as an addition problem.
8-12 = 8+ (-12)
8 + (-12) = - 4
Therefore,
8-12 = -4
Using the rules in addition and subtraction try to solve this given problem.
1. 92 + (-64) = _______
2. -66 + (-49) = ______
3. – 697 + 697 = ______
4. – 53 + 26 +(-77) = _______
5. -73 + 89 = ________
6. 92 – (- 64) = _______
7. – 73 – 89 = ________
8. – 66 – (-49) = ________
9. 846 -749 = _________
10. 679 – (-679) = ________
BOOK TIME:
Want some illustrative examples about addition and subtraction of integers? You can refer to your
textbook on pages 42 to 54.
In this part of the worksheet, you are expected to apply what you have learned into real-life situations.
Was it easy? Before we pursue for the next two operations of integers, let us have one more learning task, which
is a short story about a man named John. Let us read his story and find out how much was left on his monthly
income,
Instruction: Fill in the blanks at the right side with integer equation that matches in each
line/paragraph the story of John. Solve all the equations to see how much was left with John’s
monthly income. The first three sentences were already solved for you, just do the rest. Good luck!
It was really a lucky day because his coworker, Jeremy, pays him ₱418
for his face shield and mask order. −980 + 418 = −582
On his work in a salon, John got ₱250 tip from his regular customer
In doing her hair and nails.
In the middle of the month, John forgot his lunch and had to buy it.
Lunch cost ₱112 this time.
Late in the month. John got in a motorcycle accident. Glad it was just a
minor injury. Just a scratch in his knee and arm. Because the accident
was not his fault and he was just a victim. For settlement he was paid
for ₱6,500 but payed the hospital bill for ₱6,322 all in all.
Two days before his salary, he didn’t expect that his orders for his mini
shop came early. He borrow ₱3,698 to his mother and promise to pay it
if he gets his paycheck.
Great job! Now you knew already the rules in adding and subtracting integers,
I hope you can now add or subtract integers without using calculators. In order for
you to memorize the rules in adding and subtracting integers easily, I want you to
watch the video from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYHjT0m_iyQ by scanning the
QR code at the right side. Integer song
This section aims to measure how much you have learned from the different learning tasks you had
performed. In order for this assessment to achieve its objective, you are hereby encouraged to answer the items
by yourself. For your answers, have it at the back of this sheet.
Write a number sentence that can be used to represent each problem, then solve and show your solution.
1. Mrs. Bernardo owed 670 on her bank credit card. She charged another item costing 1,070. Find the
amount that Mrs. Bernardo owed the bank?
2. Japhet hiked 958 m down the Kennon Road. He climbed back up 496 m, and then rested. Determine the
distance from where he had started hiking.
3. An airplane 2475 m above sea level dropped an object into the ocean. It settled at a point 586 m below
sea level. How far did the object fall?
Lord, thank You for your never-ending love and support. Thank
You for guiding me as I continue working on my task in my modules
and may You continue to inspire me to do more and do better in my
upcoming learning tasks. Glory be to the father and to the Son, and to
the Holy Spirit. Amen!
