Comparative adjectives

■ Comparative adjectives are used to compare differences between two things.


■ When you are comparing things, than is placed after the comparative adjective.
The construction is as follows:

Noun (subject) + verb + comparative adjective + than + noun (object)

For example:
■ My cat is cuter than yours.
■ George is taller than Sally.

Forming comparatives

For short words, we add –er to mean more.

Use more

• For longer words, we use more and we don’t add -er. We add the word more
before the adjective to make it comparative.
• This is normally when the adjective has three or more syllables.
