Lesson Plan in Mathematics 2nd Quarter

This lesson plan outlines a mathematics lesson for 10th grade students on geometric and other sequences. [The lesson plan] has the objective of students being able to generate and describe patterns, find subsequent terms in geometric sequences, and solve problems involving geometric sequences. The lesson will begin with a preliminary activity to review ratios and patterns. Students will then work in groups to analyze example geometric sequences and determine whether they follow a geometric pattern. They will also complete activities to find missing terms in geometric sequences and insert additional terms.

LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 10

GRADE LEVEL : Grade 10

LEARNING AREA : GEOMETRIC AND OTHER SEQUENCES

QUARTER : Second

DATE : January 16, 2022 ( 9:40 - 10:40)

TARGET SKILLS :

1. Generate and describe pattern.

2. Solve problems involving geometric sequences.

COMPETENCY : The learners generate and describe pattern, find the next few terms of sequence,
solve problems involving geometric sequence.

TEACHING STRATEGY : Inductive Method

I - OBJECTIVES :

(COGNITIVE) - 1. The learner can describe patterns.

(PSYCHOMOTOR) - 2. The learner evaluates and solve problems involving geometric sequences.
(AFFECTIVE) - 3. Value the importance of the real life applications involving geometric sequences.

II - CONTENT : GEOMETRIC AND OTHER SEQUENCES

III - PROCEDURES

a. Preliminary Activity (Knowledge Recall)

“Fold Me Up”
- Reviewing the concept of ratio..
b. Ask the students the following questions after answering the preliminary activity.
- What is the area of the square formed after the first fold? Second fold? Third fold?
- Is there a pattern in the areas obtained after 3 folds?
c. Defining related concepts.

ACTIVITY

Actviity 1 : I’ll Tell You What You Are

State whether each of the following sequences is geometric or not.

1. 5,20,80,320,…
2. 5, -10, 20, -40,…
3. 10/3 , 10/6, 10/9, 10/15,…
4. 1 , 0.6, 0.36, 0.216,…
5. 4, 0,0,0,0,…

ANALYSIS

 Give inputs on the topic : GEOMETRIC SEQUENCE

a. Definition
b. Illustrative examples

Introduction

Body

Conclusion

ABSTRACTION/ GENERALIZATION

 A geometric sequence will be posted on the board.

 One of the students will be asked to determine the missing terms of the given geometric
sequence.
 Students will give generalization of the topic through oral recitation and by letting them explain
the answers on the board work activity.

APPLICATION

ACTIVITY : “THE RULE OF A GEOMETRIC SEQUENCE”

- Form a group of 3 members and answer the guide questions using the table.
Problem : What are the first 5 terms of a Geometric Sequence whose first term is 2 and whose
common ratio is 3?

TERM OTHER WAYS TO WRITE THE TERMS

IN FACTORED FORM IN EXPONENTIAL FORM
a1 = 2 2 2x30
a2 = 6 2x3 2x31
a3 = 18 2x3x3 2x32
a4 = 54 2x3x3x3 2X33

GUIDE QUESTIONS

1. Look at the two ways of writing the terms. What does 2 represent?
2. For any two consecutive terms, what does 3 represents?
3. What is the relationship between the exponent of 3 and the position of term?
4. If the position of term is n, what must be the exponent of 3?
5. What is an for the sequence?
EVALUATION

In a 1/2 sheet of paper, find the missing terms in each geometric sequence.

1. 3, 12, 48, ___, ___

2. ___, ___, 32 , 64, 128
3. 120, 60, 30, ___, ___
4. 5, ___, 20, 40, ___, ___
5. ___, 4, 12, 36, ___

ASSIGNMENT

In a 1./2 sheet of paper, insert geometric means of the following sequence.

1. Insert 3 geometric means between 5 and 3125.

2. Insert 5 geometric means between 2 and 64.
3. Insert 2 geometric means between 6 and 750
