Q.1) What is Rural outreach (RO)?
ANSWER : - Rural outreach can be defined as
continuous and comprehensive socio-economic
process, attempting to improve all aspects of
rural life. Rural outreach is very important in
India as this is where most people live in the
country. With India being a country full of
diversity, education is very important in order to
make sure that rural areas get a chance to fully
benefit from development.

Q.2) What is the need and importance of Rural Outreach?

ANSWER: -The need for rural outreach can be easily understood
by the statement of our father of the nation Mr Mahatma Gandhi
as he said that “the real progress of India does not mean simply
the growth and expansion of industrial urban centre’s but mainly
the development of the villages.
The need and importance of rural outreach is as follows:
 As we know nearly 70% population lives in rural areas and in
that too one-third rural population live in poverty.
 Also, a major problem is that they depend too much on
agriculture, it’s a major source of livelihood in rural areas, and
2
agriculture sector growth rate has nearly been 2.7% per
annum in the last 50 years.
 This rate even touched to 2.3% after economic reforms in
1991.

Q.3) Why do we need Rural development?

ANSWER: -Rural development is important not only for the
majority of the population residing in a rural area but the growth
of rural activities is also necessary to stimulate the speed of
overall economic expansion of the nation. Rural development
usually relates to the method of enhancing the quality of life and
financial well-being of an individual specifically living in
populated and remote areas.
Rural development is a complete term that concentrates on the
action taken for the development of rural areas that improve the
village economy. However, few areas that demand more focused
attention and new initiatives are.
1. Education
2. Public Health and Sanitation

Importance of rural development-
The Indian rural economy is an integral component of the
economy as a whole. Rural development is geared towards
improving the quality of life of the rural people by reducing
poverty by providing self-employment and wage employment
programs, providing drinking water, electricity, highway
connectivity, health, housing, and education facilities to rural
residents, strengthening Panchayati raj institutions, and
strengthening community infrastructure. The role of rural
development is important not only for the majority of the
population who live in rural areas but also for the overall
economic development of a country. In the process of the
evolution of the country, the process of rural development is
becoming increasingly important than it was in the past. The
objective of this approach is to achieve increased productivity,
