Method Statement For Pier Demolish

This document provides a methodology for dismantling the second layer of a cast-in-situ concrete pier. Key steps include carefully chipping away the concrete using hammers and breakers from the top down. Ultrasonic testing will be conducted on the first layer after dismantling. Then the second layer will be recast according to the approved pier casting methodology. Safety precautions such as fall protection, illumination, and use of protective equipment are also outlined.

01 Man Lift As required
02 Electric Chipping Machine As required
03 Hammer As required
04 Drill Machine As required
05 Chisel As required
06 Wire Brush As required
07 DG set (15 KVA) As required

09 JCB As required

6.0 MATERIALS:

Material shall be as per site requirements. (Staging to be placed similar as for pier
concreting along with required safety arrangements)

7.0 METHODOLOGY

 Dismantling process of pier shall be done by chipping hammers (as it is lightweight)

and hand-held concrete breakers that can be easily positioned to break vertical as
well as overhead surfaces. By offering a controlled chipping action, these hammers
allow operators to precisely chip away only specific areas. The smallest chipping
hammers, powered electrically, usually weight between 5 and 15 kg. As usual, a
good indication of the power of the tools is their weight. The heavier the tool, the
more powerful it is apt to be. The chipping action of this type of equipment is rapid,
ranging from 900 to 3,000 blows per minute.

 A protective working platform that is moved in any working position by a power

operated shall be provided,
Chipping Hammer Fig. 1

Some of the precautions to be consider during dismantling of pier concrete,

which are as follows:
 The vertical bar of pier reinforcement shall not be effected during dismantling
process.
 Dismantling process shall be done from top to down keeping layer thickness of
chipping not more than 150MM. in order to protect the first lift of pier from any
kind of adverse effect, 20 mm deep groves shall be made above 100 mm of 1 st
lift in pier periphery.
 After complete dismantling of pier 2nd lift, reinforcement of pier shall be coated
with inhibitor solution and cement mix.
 Reinforcement of pier shall be as per BBS approved by MEGA/GEC.

8.0 UPV TESTING OF PIER 1ST LAYER AFTER DISMANTLE OF 2ND LAYER.

 Ultrasonic Sonic Pulse Velocity testing need to be carried out by

independent NABL accredited lab once dismantling process is completed.

9.0 RECASTING OF PIER 2ND LAYER

 Recasting of pier 2nd layer shall be done as per approved method statement
of pier casting.

10.0 MAJOR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:

 Safe Access to the dismantle location.

 Dismantling area shall be covered with green net till completion of dismantle
work.

 All site personnel shall use helmet, safety shoes and other safety devices as
require
 Working space shall be well illuminated during work at night.
 Proper precautions and safety arrangements shall be used for activities like
fixing of formwork, electrically operated equipment’s etc.
 Construction work shall also follow the approved SHE plan.
