EECKT230 - Activity 5

This document provides 9 practice problems related to analyzing three-phase circuits. The problems cover topics like determining phase and line voltages/currents for wye-delta, wye-wye, and delta-delta connected systems. The student is directed to show their work and round final answers to three decimal places within a rectangle.

ONLINE ACTIVITY #5 IN EECKT230

GENERAL DIRECTIONS: Copy and answer the following items indicated with complete solutions. Final answers must be
rounded up to three decimal places and must be enclosed in a rectangle. Do not attach this questionnaire.

1. If Vab = 480 V in a balanced Y – connected three – phase generator, find the phase voltages, assuming the phase
sequence is: a. abc, b. acb

2. A positive – sequence three – phase balanced wye voltage source has a phase voltage of Van=100∠20° V. Determine
the line voltages of the source.

3. A positive – sequence balanced three – phase wye – connected source with a phase voltage of 120 V supplies power
to a balanced wye – connected load. The per phase load impedance is 40 + j10Ω. Determine the line currents in the circuit if
∠Van=0°.

4. Three identical resistance connected in wye carry a line current of 18 A. If the same resistances are connected in delta
across the same supply, what is the line current?

5. An abc – phase sequence three – phase balanced wye – connected source supplies power to a balanced delta –
connected load. The impedance per phase in the load is 14 + j12 Ω. If the source voltage for a phase is Van=120∠80° Vrms ,
and the line impedance is zero, find the phase currents in the wye – connected source.

6. In a balanced three – phase wye – delta system, the source has an abc – phase sequence and Van=120∠40° Vrms. The
line and load impedance are 0.5 + j0.4 Ω and 24 + j18 Ω, respectively. Find the delta currents in the load.

7. In a balanced three – phase wye – wye system, the source is an abc – sequence set of voltages. Zline=1+j1.8 Ω,
Zload=14+j12 Ω, and the load voltage on a phase is VAN=398.1∠17.99° Vrms. Find the line voltage Vab.

8. In a three – phase balanced delta – delta system, the source has an abc – phase sequence. The line and load impedances
are 0.3 + j0.2 Ω and 9 + j6 Ω, respectively. If the load current in the delta is I AB=15∠40° Arms , find the phase voltages of the
source.

9. A star – connected load consists of three identical coils, each of inductance 159.2mH and resistance 50 Ω. If the supply
frequency is 50 Hz and the line current is 3A determine (a) the phase voltage and (b) the line voltage.
