NMS SCREEN Enhancements

TDMA Carrier Configuration
The following two changes apply to the TDMA Carrier Configuration screen:
• Added a TDMA Carrier Transponder Gain Offset field to configure a gain offset
relative to a reference level (or transponder) on a per-carrier basis.

Gain Offset range is between -14 and 14 dB in steps of 2 dB.

This setting is helpful in networks in which multiple transponders with different

gains are used in the return links. When a carrier is assigned to a GCU, the
configured gain offset is applied to the default attention configured in the GCU.
Previously, this would have required manually modifying the default attenuation for
the GCU once it is assigned to a carrier on different transponder.

The default attenuation that the GCU uses is computed as follows:

Default Attenuation = GCU Default Attenuation in pconf + Carrier Gain Offset

• Added AB maximum configuration (“Max Number of ABs”) on a per-carrier basis.

Advanced Bandwidth Configuration

The following two changes apply to the Advanced Bandwidth Configuration screen
(refer to screen on next page):
• Added new region-level AB resources scheduler. When the schedule is active, a
different set of AB max configurations is applied.

Carrier ID Filter in BTP Screen

A new filter allows listing only the carriers the operator would like to see. Separate
entries by a comma.

Search Tool in VPN Membership Configuration Screen

To add a terminal to a VPN, either enter the terminal ID or Name in the “Find” field,
then click “Find,” or select it directly from the displayed Terminal list. Once the terminal
ID or Name is selected, click on the << button to add the Terminal to the VPN.

Installation Instructions
LinkStar version 3.0.04 is a maintenance release. LinkStar 3.0.00 and 3.0.01 must be
installed prior to installing LinkStar 3.0.04.
LinkStar 3.0.04 includes an update to the NMS through the provided nms-
3.0.0403.update.sh NMS update utility and an update to the accounting files replication
utility in the RNCCs.
1. To install the NMS update, follow the instructions below:
a. In the NCC server(s), login as linkstar and run the following commands
from the linkstar home directory:
ƒ ./nms-3.0.0403.update.sh
ƒ On completion, follow instructions displayed by update utility
b. Login to NMS and verify that ViaNMS release is version 3.0.0403.
2. To install the accounting files replication utility update, follow the instructions
bellow:
• In the RNCC server(s), login as lsviasat and copy the provided
update_rncc_dbs file into the /home/lsviasat/bin directory by entering the
following command:
ƒ mv update_rncc_dbs /home/lsviasat/bin/

The new LinkStar LS S2A RCSTs require the rcst6 software/firmware versions. All
other versions of RCSTs (LS S2, LS IV, LS III, and LS II) use the rcst4s prefix for
software and the corresponding firmware files.

(available at http://extranet.viasat.com/vsat/linkstar/), for general instructions on
upgrading. Also please refer to the latest version of the general release notes for
LinkStar 2.3, item #1068301.
