Remote Control Panel Operation Guide
Remote Control Panel Operation Guide
Prior to operating the generator from the Remote Control Panel, the following items must be
confirmed:
1. Press the Alarm Silence push button (if alarm horn is active) to silence the alarm horn
2. Navigate to the Shutdown screen on the HMI to identify the cause of the shutdown
3. After cause of the shutdown has been identified and cleared, pres the RESET button on
the HMI
Manual Mode
Manual controls at the Remote Control Panel provide the following functionality:
Manual initiation of generator starting and stopping
Manual generator speed and voltage control
Synchronization of Normal Supply CB (52-LV2) and Diesel Generator CB (52-DG1)
Manual control of Feeder CB’s 52-RES B1, 52-CTG11-2, 52-CTG12-1/E1, and 52-BOP2
If desired, the operator can adjust the engine speed using the Speed Adjust Switch (SAS) by
turning it to either the RAISE or LOWER position. Also, if desired, the operator can adjust the
generator voltage using the Voltage Adjust Switch (VAS) by turning it to either the RAISE or
LOWER position.
Engine will enter cool down sequence based on pre-programmed functionality and set points at
the Diesel Generator Local Control Panel

NOTE: At any point, the operator can pull the Emergency Stop Button (ESPB) to immediately
shutdown and trip open the Diesel Generator CB (if it was previously closed).
3. Monitor the Synchroscope needle position. If the Synchroscope needle does not move,
moves too slowly, or moves too rapidly, it may be necessary to adjust the speed of the
Diesel Generator via the Speed Adjust Switch (SAS). Needle movement, ideally, should
move slowly in the clockwise direction (indicating the Diesel Generator frequency is
slightly faster than Bus B1 frequency).
4. When the two sources are in sync (as indicated by the Synchroscope @ 12:00 O’clock
position and BOTH sync lamps extinguished), momentarily turn the Generator Circuit
Breaker Control Switch (CBSG) to the CLOSE position
1. Turning the Speed Adjust Switch (SAS) to the RAISE position will increase the
amount of load on the Diesel Generator.
2. Turning the Speed Adjust Switch (SAS) to the LOWER position will decrease the
amount of load on the Diesel Generator.
Note: When the Diesel Generator is operating in parallel with a live Bus B1, power factor control
is accomplished automatically via the generator Automatic Voltage Regulator.
3. The operator can manually trip open the Diesel Generator CB by momentarily turning
the Generator Circuit Breaker Control Switch (CBSG) to the OPEN position
Note: It is recommended that the operator manually unloads the Diesel Generator to less than
10% but greater than 0% load, prior to opening the generator circuit breaker.

With the Diesel Generator running in manual and powering Bus B1, and with the Normal Source
present:
4. Monitor the Synchroscope needle position. If the Synchroscope needle does not move,
moves too slowly, or moves too rapidly, it may be necessary to adjust the speed of the
Diesel Generator via the Speed Adjust Switch (SAS). Needle movement, ideally, should
move slowly in the clockwise direction (indicating the Bus (Diesel Generator) frequency
is slightly faster than Normal Source frequency).
5. When the two sources are in sync (as indicated by the Synchroscope @ 12:00 O’clock
position and BOTH sync lamps extinguished), momentarily turn the Normal Circuit
Breaker Control Switch (CBSN) to the CLOSE position
7. Momentarily turn the Generator Circuit Breaker Control Switch (CBSG) to the TRIP
position to open the Diesel Generator CB
Automatic controls at the Remote Control Panel provide the following functionality:
Monitoring of Bus B1 for voltage failure
Automatic initiation of generator start
Automatic opening of Normal Source CB (52-LV2), Tie CB (52-LVT1) and Feeder CB’s
52-RES B1, 52-CTG11-2, 52-CTG12-1/E1, and 52-BOP2
Monitoring for return of Normal Source (line side of 52-LV2)
Automatic synchronization and parallel back to Normal Source across Normal Source
CB (52-LV2)
Configuration for Automatic Starting of Generator:
Control switch positions prior to starting:
Synchroscope Switch (SSW) in OFF position
Sync Source Select Switch (SSS) in the BUS position
Sync Mode Switch in the AUTO position
Upon loss of Bus B1 voltage for a pre-set amount of time (default time is 10 seconds and
adjustable on the MAIN screen of the HMI), the Remote Control Panel will issue a start
command to the generator.
Generator starts and achieves rated speed and voltage
CB trip signals are sent to Normal Source CB (52-LV2), Tie CB (52-LVT1) and Feeder
CB’s 52-RES B1, 52-CTG11-2, 52-CTG12-1/E1, and 52-BOP2
Note: Manual closing and opening control of the Feeder CB’s from the Remote Control Panel is
inhibited until the Normal Source has been restored. This is indicated via the Load Shed Active
Light located on the Remote Control Panel
Page 3 of 5
Upon confirmation of open status from all of the above CB’s, generator CB (52-DG1) will
close
Generator powers the bus
Return to Normal
Upon return of Normal Source (line side of 52-LV2), a 10 minute stability timer becomes active
with indication on the MAIN screen of the HMI. Without subsequent disruptions in Normal
Source voltage, the 10 minute timer will complete timing and the Remote Control Panel will
indicate “Normal Power OK”.
After indication of “Normal Power OK”, the operator can choose to automatically return to
Normal Source, or manually return to Normal source.
Generator will automatically synchronize and across the Normal Source CB (52-LV2)
When in sync Normal Source CB (52-LV2) will close
Generator will be in parallel with the Normal Source momentarily
Generator CB (52-DG1) will open
Generator will enter cool down mode then stop
Note: In the event that the generator fails and/or the generator CB trips open, AND the Normal
source (line side of 52-LV2) is present, the Remote control panel will issue a close command to
the Normal Source CB (52-LV2) to restore normal power. This logic bypasses the 10 minute
stability timer.
TEST MODE
The Remote Control Panel provides the following Test Mode functionality:
Automatic synchronizing and paralleling of generator to a live Bus B1
Automatic loading to a preset load of 80% of the generator rating
Automatic unloading of generator
2. Momentarily turn the System Test Switch (STS) to the TEST position
Generator will start and automatically synchronize and across the Generator CB (52-
DG1)
Once generator CB is closed, generator will begin to soft load up to the pre-programmed
set point
The automatic loading control will continue to maintain the load set point until the
operator cancels the test
1. Momentarily turn the System Test Switch (STS) to the TEST position
Note: If the Generator Circuit Breaker (52-DG1) opens at any point while in the Test Mode, the
Test Mode will be aborted and the generator will enter the cooldown mode and stop
While the Test Mode is active, Auto Mode functionality is still active. Test Mode is aborted in
the event of a loss of Normal Source OR in the event of the Normal Source CB (52-LV2) tripping
open, while in Test Mode.
