Inquiries, Investigation, and Immersion Lesson Plan

This lesson plan aims to teach students how to write the significance of a study. It uses various teaching strategies like collaborative activities, questioning, and peer assessment. The lesson begins with an activity where students brainstorm how their research benefits different institutions. An explicit teaching session then explains why writing significance is important and the steps to do it. Students practice writing significance in groups and provide peer feedback. Finally, they write significance individually to demonstrate understanding. The teacher assesses students and provides additional lessons for those who need more help.

A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Inquiries, Investigation and Immersion (5As)

I. Learning Competency: Formulates clearly the significance of the study

II. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, at least 80% of the students will be able to:
a. recognize how beneficial their research is to different institutions;
b. evaluate the written output of their peers; and
c. write the significance of the study of their research.
II. Subject Matter: Writing the Significance of the Study
III. Materials: TV, PowerPoint presentation, and copies of rubrics
IV. Reference: Bigueja, A. (2020). Identifying the problem and asking question. Senior High
School Module. Department of Education, Regional Center Site: Legazpi City
V. Strategies: Collaborative activity, reciprocal teaching, question and answer, explicit teaching,
peer assessment, and independent study
VI. Procedure:
A. Before the Lesson (2 min.)

Preliminaries:

 Greetings
 Checking of attendance
 Review of the previous lesson

B. Activity (WHY DOES IT MATTER?) (10 min.)

Strategy: Collaborative Activity
To jump start our activity this afternoon, please go to your research groups.
Select a representative from your group and pick a word from the jar.
As a group, you are going to answer this question: “Why does research matter to ___?)
Brainstorm and share your ideas on how beneficial your research is to the institution you have
picked. After that, choose a reporter who will share your inputs with the class.
You have 5 minutes to brainstorm and each of the group will be given 1 minute to share
ideas with the class later.
(Note: The words written on the papers are community, students, parents, future researchers,
school administration, etc.)
C. Analysis (5 min.)
Strategy: Question and Answer
What are the challenges you encountered in doing the activity?
Did you find it hard to give the benefits of your research to the groups you have picked?
(Note: Everyone is encouraged to answer (male/female, slow, average, or fast learner, and all
the students’ inputs are appreciated.)
D. Abstraction (10 min.)
Strategy: Explicit Teaching/Reciprocal Teaching
I have here a PowerPoint presentation which will answer two main questions:
1. Why is it important to write the significance of the study?
2. What are the steps involved in writing the Significance of the Study?
During our discussion, I will be asking you random questions, and everyone is invited to share their
ideas.

 Why is it Important to Write the Significance of the Study?

The purpose of the Significance of the Study are the following:
a. To explain how the research will be contributing to the field;
b. To let the readers know why research is worth conducting; and
c. To explain how significant it is to various institutions.

 What are the steps involved in Writing the Significance of the Study?

1. Use the research problem as a starting point.

The problem statement can provide clues to the research study’s outcome and who will benefit
from it.
Ask yourself, “How will the answers to my research problem be beneficial?”
Let’s say your research problem is “What are the new perspectives in approaching anxiety issues
of SHS students through meditation?”
Once you’ve zeroed in on the general benefits of your study, it’s time to break it down into specific
beneficiaries.
2. State how research will contribute to the existing literature in the field.
Think of the things that were not explored by previous studies. Then, write how the research
tackles those unexplored areas.
3. Explain how the research will benefit society.
In this part, tell how your research will impact society. Think of how the results of your research will
change something in your community.
For example, in the study about the new perspectives of approaching anxiety issues of SHS
students through meditation, the community will realize the significance of meditation in helping a person
control his/her anxiety issues. As a result, the community will be encouraged to promote meditation and
lessen the screen time especially teenagers.
4. Mention the specific persons or institutions who will benefit from the study.
Using the same example above, you may indicate that this research’s results will benefit those
looking for an alternative solution to anxiety issues.
5. Indicate how the study may help future studies in the field.
You must also specifically indicate how your research will be part of the literature of the field you
are studying and how it will benefit future researchers. In our example above, you may indicate that
through the data and analysis your research will provide, future researchers may explore other capabilities
of meditation in controlling anxiety issues.
Here is an example.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This research will provide new perspectives in approaching anxiety issues of SHS students through
meditation.
Specifically, this research will benefit the following:
Community – this study spreads awareness in the community on recognizing anxiety as a mental
health concern and how meditation can be a valuable approach to alleviating it.
Academic Institutions and administrators – through this research, academic institutions and
administrators may promote programs and advocacies regarding meditation to help students deal
with their anxiety issues.
Mental health advocates – the result of this research will provide valuable information for the
advocates to further their campaign on spreading awareness on dealing with various mental health
issues, including anxiety, and how to stop stigmatizing those with mental health disorders.
Parents – this research may convince parents to consider programs involving meditation that may
help the students deal with their anxiety issues.
Students will benefit directly from this research as its findings may encourage them to consider
meditation as an approach to lower their anxiety levels.
Future researchers – this study covers information involving meditation as an approach to reducing
anxiety levels. Thus, the result of this study can be used for future discussions on the capabilities
of meditation in alleviating other mental health concerns.
Generalization: It is always important to determine the significance of the things we learn at school
every day. Do you agree?

For example, why do you think it is important to know the significance of the subject Personal
Development in our daily lives?
(Note: Again, everyone is encouraged to answer (male/female, slow, average or fast learner).
E. Application (18 minutes)

Strategy: Peer assessment

Now, please get one whole sheet of paper. We are going to start writing the draft of the
significance of the study of your research paper based on the things we have discussed earlier.
This is the rubric which will serve as your guide in writing the significance of the study.
Take note that after writing your draft as a group, we will be doing a peer assessment wherein you
are going to rate the other group’s work based on the rubrics I handed to you.
Always remember to collaborate and share your ideas with your members.
You have 10 minutes to do the writing session, and the other 5 minutes will be used to evaluate
the other groups’ work.
(Note: Teacher distributes the rubric and circulates around the room to help the students and guide
as they write.)
If you are done writing, it’s now time to do a peer assessment. Exchange paper with the other
groups. Group 1 will exchange with Group 2, Group 3 with Group 4, and Group 5 with Group 6. and
evaluate each other’s work using a rubric.
(Paper will be submitted, and teacher gives her feedback.)
F. Assessment (15 minutes)

It’s now time to start writing the significance of the study individually to check if each one of you
understood our lesson this afternoon.

Using the same rubric, please refine the significance of the study you have written as a group
earlier and integrate the feedback the I gave. Write you answer in a one whole sheet of paper.

Again, you have 15 minutes to finish your task.

G. Additional Activity:

Write the significance of the study of this research title: “Exploring the Relationship between
Parental Involvement and Academic Achievement.”
A. REMARKS

B. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation

B. No. of learners who require additional activities for remediation who scored below 80%

C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners who have caught up with the lesson

D. No. of learners who continue to require remediation

E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did these work?

F. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or supervisor can help me solve?

G. What innovation or localized materials did I use/discover which I wish to share with other teachers?
