OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the student should be in able to:
1. Add similar fractions accurately
2. Enumerate the steps in adding similar fractions
3. solve word problems involving addition of similar fraction.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:


Topic: Addition of similar fraction.
Reference: books
Materials: laptop, books, visual aids, pictures, tapes

III. PROCEDURES:
A. Routine activity:
 Greetings
 Prayer
 Cleanliness
 Checking of Attendance

B. Motivation:
I will play a song “Do you wanna add some fractions? With the tune of ‘’ Do you wanna
build a snowman ‘’ in the frozen movie.

C. Presentation:
The teacher will present a topic and an example.

Maine jogs regularly. She jogged 1/6 km then she saw a friend.
She jogged another 2/6 km then she stopped for a while. How
many kilometers she jogged?
Discussion:
Teacher will discuss how to add similar fractions using the example word problem. Also, in
adding similar fractions, we have Enumerate these steps to be follow.

1. Add the numerators


1/6 + 2/6 = 3/6

2. Copy the same denominator


1/6 + 2/6 = 3/6

3. Reduce the sum to lowest terms wherever possible.


1/6 + 2/6 = 3/6 or ½

Another problem:

Juan is Jose’s friend. He also jogs regularly. Juan jogged 1/8 km.
He saw a dog and jogged another 3/8 km. How many kilometers
did the jogged.

Based on our discuss, how do we add similar fraction ?

IV. EVALUATION:
Directions: Add the following similar fractions. Draw a shape and shade then to show the
following fractions, you can use any shape like pie, square , rectangles….

1 . 2/4 + ¾ 6. 4/7 + 2/7


2. 5/6 + 1/6 7. 1/5 + 2/5
3. 4/ 7 + 7/2 8. 1/3 + 1/3
4. 2/4 + ¾ 9. 2/5 + 1/5
5. 5/6 + 1/6 10. 3/6 + ¼

V. ASSIGNMENT:
Answer ‘’ keep moving ‘’ on page 99 on your book.
