DLP in Sound 1

This document provides a detailed lesson plan about sound waves for a 7th grade science class. The lesson plan aims to teach students about sound waves, including defining sound waves, distinguishing different types of sound waves, and recognizing key terms. The lesson will include a review of waves, videos, presentations on how sound travels and the human ear perceives sound, examples of different sound wave types, and an activity to assess student understanding.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 7

I. Objective
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define what is sound wave;
b. distinguish the kinds of sound wave;
c. recognize the key terms in sound waves by answering set of questions from
it.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Sound Wave
b. Materials: DLP, laptop, speaker
c. References:

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activity
Good morning class. Good morning sir
Take your seat. Thank you sir.
B. Developmental Activity
a. Review

Last meeting we discussed about the

classification of waves.
What are these again? The classification of waves are
mechanical wave and electromagnetic
wave.
Very good.
What did we say again about
mechanical wave? These are waves that requires a
medium to travel through.

How about electromagnetic wave? These are waves that does not require
a medium in order to travel.
Very good.

Moving on to our next topic we have

here our lesson objectives.
At the end of the lesson, the students
should be able to:
a. define what is sound wave;
b. distinguish the kinds of sound wave;
c. recognize the key terms in sound
waves by answering set of questions
from it.

b. Motivation
Before we go deeper I have here a
video about our lesson for today.
Participate on the details you are to
watch on the video. (The students watch the video)
(The teacher shows the video)

c. Presentation
Basing on the video you just watched Sounds are caused by vibrations.
what can you say about sound?
Very good.
Again sound is a form of energy caused
by vibration.
Basically from that definition or from the
video we now conclude that sound
always propagate or form from
vibrations from the source or from the
movement of the object. The sound travels when the vibrations
from the object will pass through the
How does sound travel? medium like air.

Exactly, very good.

So first, an object will make a sound by
vibrating, then the vibration pass
through the air, now these vibrations in
the air is now pick by the ear.

Speaking of our ear I have hear a video

on which we are able to understand on
how we perceive sounds.
(The teacher shows the video about the
human ear)

Now that we watched the video let’s try The outer ear, middle ear and the inner
to understand now our ear. ear.
It says in the video, human ears have
three main parts these are the?
Good. It acts as the funnel collecting the sound
Starting from the outer ear we have the waves that now passes through the ear
pinna. canal.
What is the function of the pinna?
Good.
Now in the middle ear we have the ear
drum and the oscicles which is divided The hammer, anvil and stirrup.
into three parts. What are these?

After that sound waves passes the ear As the sound wave touches the
canal. eardrum, the eardrum now vibrates.
What happens next?

Very good.
Now from that vibration of the eardrum it
will now move the oscicles behind it that
also vibrates the cochlea in the inner
ear. in there the liquid inside it vibrates
and as well as the tiny hairs that now
creates this nerve signal which is now
sent to the brain and that’s the time that
we understand the vibration as sounds.
Yes sir.
That is on how we perceive sound.
Are clear with the human ear.

Moving on we have here the three kinds

of sound waves.

First one is the Audible sound.

When we say audible this are sounds
that our ear can detect or here.
Audible sounds ranges from 20-20000
Hz. This is the capacity of our hearing.

Second one is the Ultrasonic waves.

This are waves that exceeds the
capacity of human hearing.
It ranges above 20000 Hz.
This sound waves cannot be detected
anymore by the human ear but can
detected by some animal.
Basically they use this kind of wave for
ultrasound imaging in order to examine
the interior parts of the body.

The third kind of sound wave is the

infrasound wave.
It is below the hearing capacity of
human hearing.
It ranges from 20 Hz.
This are waves that cannot be heard by
the human ear but it can cause
damages.

A good example for this is an

earthquake.

Moving on we have here some

important features of sound. In solid.
Speed of sound. Because the particles are close
Going back to our previous lesson on together.
wave, we said that waves travel the
fastest in what?
Why is it so?

That is correct, very good.

In sound it is just the same that sound
wave travels the fastest in solid and
slowest in gas.
Space.
Next important feature is the sound
cannot travel in a vacuum.
When you hear the word vacuum, what
comes into your mind?
Very good.
Meaning if a vacuum is like space, there Yes sir.
is no presence of matter with in.
So, basically sound cannot travel
because it does not contain any
medium inside.
Clear?

d. Generalization
To sum up our lesson for today I have
here another video.
(The teacher shows the video)

e. Activity
Let’s check how far you understood our
lesson for today.
1. Sound waves do not travel through
A. solids
B. liquids
C. gases
D. vacuum
2. The frequency which is not audible to
the human ear is
A. 50 Hz
B. 500 Hz
C. 5000 Hz
D. 50000 Hz
3. An example for mechanical wave.
A. Radio wave
B. Light wave
C. Infrared radiation
D. Sound wave
4. The vibrations or the pressure
variations inside the inner ear are
converted into electrical signals by
the_________.
A. cochlea
B. tympanic membrane
C. pinna
D. anvil
5. Vibrations inside the ear are amplified
by the three bones namely the
_________ in the middle ear.
A. hammer, anvil and stirrup
B. hammer, anvil and pinna
C. hammer, cochlea and stirrup
D. auditory bone, anvil and stirrup
6. Sound travels faster in
A. air.
B. water.
C. steel.
D. a vacuum.
E. Sound travels at about the same
speed in all of these.
7. The speed of any wave depends
upon
A. its energy.
B. the medium through which it travels.
C. its angle of reflection.
D. its amplitude.

(The class answers the items orally and

discusses the answers)

IV. Evaluation
Answer the following questions in your activity notebook. Copy and Answer.
1. What is sound wave?
2. What are the three kinds of wave?

V. Assignment
Bring a medium sized box and rubber bands tomorrow.
