RINGFEDER® Locking Assemblies RfN 7015
Characteristics
The Locking Assemblies of this series present – as the known
Locking Assemblies of the RfN 7012 series – all positive fea-
tures of a frictional shaft-hub connection. It is recommended to
use them in every application that requires high transmission
values and outstanding centering abilities or the special de-
mands of a belt drum fastening or similar conditions. Two ty-
pes are available:
RfN 7015.0 as a standard version,
RfN 7015.1 as a belt drum Locking Assembly,
whereby the latter differs from the standard version by lower sur-
face pressures which are brought in to line with the total load.

The outstanding characteristics of both versions are:

Fig. 1 RINGFEDER® Locking Assembly RfN 7015

TRANSMISSION OF HIGH PERIPHERAL FORCES The angles of the cones generally permit the transmission
of the required torques or axial forces by only one Locking As-
sembly RfN 7015.0

GOOD CENTERING ABILITY Due to the centering web and the relatively large design (long
guides) the Locking Assemblies RfN 7015 center according to
their manufacturing accuracy.

SIMPLIFIED MANUFACTURE The double-tapered execution allows relatively large mounting

tolerances. In addition, as all working surfaces for the clamping
and releasing movements lie inside of the Locking Assembly,
there are no high demands made to the surface qualities of shaft
and hub.

EASY MOUNTING Only a few commercially available screws must be tightened.

Fitting work is not required.

EASY REMOVAL Locking Assemblies RfN 7015 are removed by means of thrust
screws. As the clamping and releasing threads are equal, the
existing locking screws can be used for this task.

HIGH FATIGUE STRENGTH UNDER Neither shaft nor hub feature grooves. Thus, a high polar sec-
ALTERNATING TORSIONAL STRESSES tion modulus is at the disposal of the designer and the notch ef-
fect is minimized according to the system.

OVERLOAD PROTECTION EFFECT When the permissible load is exceeded, the Locking Assemblies
will slip. In this way, they safeguard valuable machine compo-
nents against damage. However, the Locking Assembly connec-
tion is subject to the same laws as all other frictional locking
connections, and is not suitable for use as a slipping clutch.

EASY ADJUSTABILITY Hubs can be located at any point on the shaft and are adjusta-
ble to precise angles.

EASY CALCULATIONS This catalogue lists all interesting data in the form of quick-re-
ference tables.

Mounting of Locking Assembly

Explanations
The values for T, Fax, p and p´ apply to Locking Assemblies in-
d x D, L, l, L1 = stalled in an oiled condition.
Basic dimensions, Locking Assemblies not tightened For further details see page 8.
dG = Clamping/released thread
Surface finishes
T = Transmissible torque
For shafts and hub bores:
Fax = Transmissible axial force Ra % 3,2 µm.
p = Surface pressure between Locking Assembly and shaft
Tolerances
p´ = Surface pressure between Locking Assembly and hub
We recommend the following mounting tolerances:
TA = Maximum tightening torque for the screws considered Shaft: h8 / Hub: H8
in order to determine the values T, Fax, p and p´.
Location of several Locking Assemblies RfN 7015.0
2 Locking Assemblies at most can be installed directly one
after the other. In this case the transmission values of the above
table will double.

Change of screw tightening torques

A reduction of the contact pressures and the transmission
values by diminished tightening of the screws is possible. The
admissible lower limit results from the multiplication of the TA
values of the above table by 0,8.
There is an approximately linear connection between TA, T,
Fax, p and p´ (hub and hollow shaft calculation according to
the equations on page 5)!

Explanations

For further details see page 8.
dG = Clamping/released thread
T = Transmissible torque Surface finishes
For shafts and hub bores:
Fax = Transmissible axial force
Ra % 3,2 µm.
p = Surface pressure between Locking Assembly and shaft
Tolerances
p´ = Surface pressure between Locking Assembly and hub
We recommend the following mounting tolerances:
TA = Maximum tightening torque for the screws considered
in order to determine the values T, Fax, p and p´. Shaft: h8 / Hub: H8

Location of several Locking Assemblies RfN 7015.1

2 Locking Assemblies at most can be installed directly one
after the other. In this case the transmission values of the
above table will double.

Change of screw tightening torques

A reduction of the contact pressures and the transmission va-
lues by diminished tightening of the screws is possible. The ad-
missible lower limit results from the multiplication of the TA va-
lues of the above table by 0,5.
There is an approximately linear connection between TA, T,
Fax, p and p´ (hub and hollow shaft calculation according to
the equations on page 7)!

Installation and removal instructions

Installation Removal
Since the force is transmitted by contact pressure and friction The Locking Assemblies RfN 7015 are to be removed as
between functional surfaces, condition of contact surfaces and follows:
proper tightening of the locking screws are of great importance
(see point 1). 1. Loosen all screws by a few turns.

1. All contact surfaces, including screw threads and screw 2. Remove the screws adjacent to each threaded bore and screw
head bearing surface, must be clean and slightly oiled. (Do them into these bores.
not use Molybdenum Disulphide!) In this condition, the
shaft, hub and Locking Assemblies are to be assembled. 2.1 The front thrust ring is released by having the jack screws-
pressed against the web of the inner ring (see Fig. 7).
1.1 Unscrew all locking screws far enough so that only few
threads are engaged in the rear thrust ring. For shipping 2.2 The rear thrust ring is released by having the jack screws in-

pushing it out (Fig. 8).
1.2 With larger Locking Assemblies, it is advantageous to
insert several locking screws into the corresponding
threads of the front thrust ring according to Fig. 7 and push
against them.

2. After the Locking Assembly is placed in position, slightly

tighten all locking screws (screwed into the rear thrust ring)
and make final alignment and adjustment of the connection.

and do this in two or three stages up to the indicated tigh-

To correctly execute the assembly the index bores of the thrust

to be in line with the index bore of the inner ring 3, whereas the
marking groove of the inner ring must point in opposite direc-

due to its principle, increasing or decreasing effect per revo-

pressure as well as limitation due to the strength of the struc-

combined pressures have to be taken into consideration when
calculating hubs and shafts; accordingly calculated hub outside
