Script:
Well, welcome back to the show and today we’ll listen to an interview I had with four typical
…………………………… teenagers: Ben, Naomi, William and Anne. We asked them a few questions about
eating habits, …………………………… food and eating …………………………… food. Listen to the interview!
Interviewer: Well everyone, first of all, I’d like to thank you for this interview! I’m sure we’ll have an
interesting talk on today’s teens’ eating habits! The first thing I’d like to know is …………………………… you
often think about what you eat?
Ben: Well, I think that a healthy body needs healthy food. I’m a football player and I’d really like to
become a professional! What I eat determines my weight and my …………………………… condition. I think
it’s really important to have healthy eating habits!
Interviewer: What about the girls? Do you have a healthy diet, Naomi?
Naomi: I think I do. I agree with Ben, healthy eating is important. If you want to live a
…………………………… and healthy life without becoming ill or …………………………… you really have to start
now, while you’re young. But I can’t deprive myself of junk food completely. I occasionally have some
crisps at night or some chocolate! I think you need a …………………………… diet. I try to eat enough fruit
and vegetables during the day, but some sweets or crisps won’t kill me, I’m sure! I also go running
twice a week so I believe I’m doing the right things.
Interviewer: And what about you Anne? I believe you’re a vegetarian, right?
Anne: That’s right. I don’t eat any meat and I of killing animals for ……………………………. It’s a big industry
and some animals are given lots of antibiotics. I think that eating meat is unhealthy.
William: I couldn’t do without my daily portion of meat.
Interviewer: Yes, William, what about your eating habits?
William: I’m actually someone who really enjoys having a good steak, with plenty of sauce! Chips are
my favourite side dish too. Unlike Anne, I believe it is only …………………………… for us to consume meat.
I also like hamburgers, the real American way: fried onion rings, a big hamburger, melted cheese and
a burger bun! Yum!
Interviewer: Since you’ve just mentioned hamburgers, William, do the rest of you eat fast food? What
about you, Anne?
Anne: I can’t even remember the last time I was in a fast food joint, probably when I was little. Even
though they now serve veggie burgers I won’t go to McDonald’s, not unless my friends really
…………………………… on going.
Interviewer: You look like you agree, Ben.
Ben: Yeah, I try to avoid fast food places as much as possible! I usually eat at home or buy a
…………………………… somewhere. When I’m not home, I always take a packed lunch with plenty of fruit
and bottled water.
Interviewer: What about you, Naomi?
Naomi: When I’m on holiday it’s hard to resist going to a fast food restaurant. It’s just so cheap and
convenient. But other than that I don’t go often anymore even though I really used to love having

2
Miss Bossart 6TQc LM1
birthday parties at Mickey D’s! Thinking about it now, going there was always more of a
…………………………… and not
really a habit.
Interviewer: And for you, William, do you also consider fast food a rare treat?
William: Well, I am quite fond of fast food, but I don’t eat as much as you think. I have to admit that I
probably eat fried food about …………………………… a week. We usually have it once a week at home and
then at the weekend I get a takeout when I am out with friends, normally a pizza or a kebab.

d. In the USA, 42.4 percent of adults are obese and 19.3 percent of young people between 2 and 19
are obese too.
- Who do you think is responsible for the obesity of people in the United States?
..............................................................................................................................................
..............................................................................................................................................
- Morgan Spurlock is an independent filmmaker who decided to spend
30 days only eating fast food to find out what the consequences of
eating fast food on a regular basis are.
Spurlock followed specific rules governing his eating habits:
- He must fully eat three McDonald's meals per day: breakfast,
lunch, and dinner.
- He must consume every item on the McDonald's menu at least
once over the course of the 30 days (he managed this in nine
days).
- He must only ingest items that are offered on the McDonald's menu, including bottled
water. All outside consumption of food is prohibited.
- He must Super Size the meal when offered; he cannot request to Super Size on his
own.

What are the consequences, in your opinion?

............................................................................................................................................
............................................................................................................................................

As a result, the then-32-year-old Spurlock gained 11.1 kilograms (24 lb), a 13% body mass increase,
increased his cholesterol to 230 mg/dL (6.0 mmol/L), and experienced mood swings, sexual
dysfunction, and fat accumulation in his liver. It took Spurlock fourteen months to lose all the weight
gained from his experiment using a vegan diet supervised by his then-girlfriend, a chef who specializes
in gourmet vegan dishes.

e. Where do you think we can find a McDonald’s? Name the places you see in the pictures.

f. In your opinion, what do the numbers represent? Match the columns.

g. In the first interview with the teenagers, we learnt that Annie is a vegetarian. As you probably
know, there are different kinds of dietary choices like this one. Do you know any others?
...................................................................................................................................................
...................................................................................................................................................
h. “There’s no such thing as a free lunch?” is the title of the article on the next page. What do you
think it will be about?
...................................................................................................................................................
i. How can someone get a free lunch?

1 Sandy, Derby
I can’t afford to …………………………. good food …………………………., but I wouldn’t even if I was rich. It is
so easy to cook up raw food into a stew, pie or curry and have it a day or two later. Raw or cooked
food can be put into the …………………………. so easily. Just wrap it well. Only rule there is never refreeze
without cooking in between. Of course, the easiest thing is don’t buy too much in the first place. I do
feel that someone who throws out a significant …………………………. of what they buy has got to be too
stupid to run a household. People who do that are mad and ultimately selfish. There is only so much
food in the world – while I don’t recommend posting packets of mash to Darfur – you could always buy
less and give the money to charity? Retailers should have to distribute any …………………………. waste.

6
Miss Bossart 6TQc LM1
2 Kirsty, Leeds
Freegans are such ………………………….. You can afford to buy the food yet choose not to, so it’s thrown
out, then you scrub through a bin for it. You may as well be stealing from the shop. You’re causing the
waste by not buying the food in the first place. Sounds like a …………………………. excuse for being tight
fisted to me, not a protest against supermarkets.
3 Naomi, Bristol
Years ago I was skint and had to eat like this to survive. I don’t agree with waste and think that
homelessness …………………………. could be given more by the supermarkets earlier so the food is still
edible. Also marking the food down by more than the odd 20p would encourage people to buy the
nearly out-of-date food in the store so it doesn’t end up in the bin. The …………………………. were aware
that some people were scavenging from the bins when I was doing it and would purposely pour bleach
or washing powder on the food to render it inedible. I hope that they feel …………………………..
4 Ed, Cardiff
Scroungers. Why don’t they go into the store and look for the reduced items that will end up in the bin
and BUY IT/THEM! Strewth, everybody wants something for nothing. I bet if this lot ………………………….
themselves whilst getting the food they’ll sue the supermarkets!
5 Shazzbhatt, Sheffield
Good for you! I think it is a fair way for/of showing that so much food is thrown out, but hasn’t gone
off – I have just taught my other half that ‘Best before’ doesn’t mean that at the stroke of
…………………………. the food will instantly go off but that it may taste better before this date. Our society
is such a ‘throw away’ society and needs to find out that there are other ways to recycle and save the
…………………………., such as this (not wasting good food).
6 Hazel, Edinburgh
Why would anyone have a problem with Freeganism? If the food is going to …………………………., and the
supermarkets have not arranged for it to go to a good cause – something which I understand M&S
does – then, in my …………………………., it’s up for grabs! If supermarkets don’t like their bins being
raided, then they should get rid of unnecessary packaging and donate leftover food to charity.
7 Liz, Manchester
I used to work in a foodhall of a department store and every night when we closed they would get all
the loaves of very expensive fresh …………………………., all the cream cakes, buns and pastries and shove
them all into bin bags ready for the ………………………….. When I once asked if we could have any to take
home, I was told ‘of course, at full ………………………….. It used to really bother me that as I left work
there was always homeless people outside the store – why the company couldn’t – and still doesn’t –
donate this food to charity, I don’t know. It is such a waste!
8 Matthew, Inverness
You can …………………………. it all you like. You can sugarcoat it and make it sound like a great thing to
do, but at the end of the day it’s EATING FROM A BIN!

Le past continuous est utilisé en anglais pour parler d’actions où d’évènements qui étaient en train de
se passer à un moment dans le passé. Il se forme avec l’auxiliaire « was » ou « were » et le participe
présent.

Miss Bossart 6TQc LM1
2. Formation
On forme le Past Continuous en utilisant l’auxiliaire « was » ou « were » (tout dépend du sujet) suivi
du participe présent (forme en ing).

Was = I, he, she, it

Were = you, we, they

d. Make the correct form of the past continuous

1) (when / he / work there)?

Miss Bossart 6TQc LM1

une longue action en arrière-plan, et le Past Simple décrit une action plus courte qui interrompt l’action
en arrière-plan.

simple).
