DLP Math 8.7

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for a mathematics class. The objectives are to define the four parts of a mathematical system - undefined terms, defined terms, postulates, and theorems - and illustrate how they are related. The lesson plan outlines preparatory, developmental, and evaluation activities. In the preparatory activities, students review concepts through a crossword puzzle. In the developmental activities, the teacher presents and discusses defined terms like collinear points and coplanar points, as well as subsets of a line. Students demonstrate their understanding through examples and responses. For evaluation, students answer questions about a diagram. The assignment is for students to draw and label additional diagrams involving points, lines, and planes.

Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 8

February 13, 2023

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
1. Define each part of the mathematical system;
a. Undefined terms
b. Defined terms
c. Postulates
d. Theorems;
2. Illustrate how the four parts of mathematical system related to one
another.
II. Subject Matter
` Topic: “Describing Mathematical System”
References: LM: Emmanuel P. Abuzo. et.al (2013). Mathematics 8
TG: Teacher’s Guide for Junior High School
Materials: Visual aids, calculator, laptop and LED Television
Value Focus: Cooperation
PPST: Domain 4 – Curriculum and Planning
Time Frame: 1 hour

III. Learning Activities

A. Preparatory Activities

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Review

In order to refresh your memory from our past

lesson, answer the following questions.

Directions: Complete the crossword based on

the given hints.
4. Motivation

There are pictures posted, and you all have to

do is to separate point, line and plane

1.

1. Point
2. Plane
3. Line

2.

3.

Very good! Thank you for answering.

B. Developmental Activity

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

1. Presentation

Let us have a quick recap before we will

continue the lesson.

Mathematical System is divided into four parts,

these are?  Undefined Terms
 Defined Terms
 Axioms/ Postulates
 Theorems
Good.

Here are the learning objectives that you

will attain after our discussion.
At the end of the lesson the we will be
Please read the objectives: able to:
1. Define each part of the
mathematical system;
a. Undefined terms
b. Defined terms
c. Postulates
d. Theorems;
2. Illustrate how the four parts of
mathematical system related to
one another.

2. Discussion

Under undefined terms; we learned about point

line and plane. To continue or discussion, we will
now learn the defined terms.

What are defined terms again? Defined terms have a formal

definition. They are used to define
even more terms.

Very good.

There are three dots on a straight

Based on the figure, what can you observe? line, point A, B and C Sir.

You are right.

Points A, B, and C are collinear points.

How about this figure? Points A and B are on the line while
point C is outside the line Sir.

Points A, B, and C are non-collinear points.

Base on the figure presented, how will you

define collinear and non-collinear points? Collinear Points are points that lie on
the same line.
Correct! While non-collinear points are points
that do not lie on the same line.

What can you say about the figure?

The dots are inside the shape Sir.
Points A, B, and C are coplanar points.

How about this figure? Point A and point B are inside while
point C is not inside the shape sir.
Very good. Points A, B, and C are non-coplanar
points.

We can imply that?

Coplanar Points are points that lie in
Very good! the same plane and non-coplanar
points are points that do not lie on the
same plane.

Now let’s proceed to the subsets of a line.

This line composes of:

Line Segment:

A line segment is a part of a line consisting two

endpoints and all the points in between.

A line segment may be called:

AB or BA

and its endpoints are A and B.

Ray:

A ray is a part of a line with one endpoint and

extending in only one direction.

A ray is named with its endpoint first, followed by

another point on the ray.

The ray can be named AB read as “ray AB”

Opposite Rays:

are rays with a common endpoint but extending

in opposite directions.

What is their common endpoint?

Point B Sir.
Right! The opposite rays are?
BA and BC
In naming the ray, it starts with B because B is
between points A and C.

Well done!

3. Generalization

To sum up our lesson for today, what have you

learned from our discussion? We learn about the defined terms
Very good. Who can give other realization? Undefined terms compose of collinear
points and non-collinear points,
coplanar points and non-coplanar
points and subsets of a line.

Do you have questions and clarifications

regarding to our topic? None Sir.

If there’s none, prepare for a quiz.

IV. Evaluation

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

Directions: Refer your answers on the

diagram below:

1. What is the other name or line a? 1. line WZ or line ZW

2. Using a script letter, name a plane 2. L
formed by the four lines. 3. plane WXY, plane XYZ and plane
3. Name the plane in three different WZY
ways using three points.

V. Assignment

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

Direction: Draw and label the diagram:

1. OP
2. plane QRST
3. plane S
4. line f containing M and N
5. point B contained in plane Q
6. line CD on plane B and point E not
on the plane
7. plane D contains three non-collinear
points A, B, and C.
