Answer ALL question.

(Total: 25 marks)

Question 1

A liquid-phase reaction A + B → 2C is carried out in two flow reactors connected in series. A

feed stream with equimolar reactants A and B flows at 10 L s -1 and the entering molar flow
rate of A is 150 mol s-1. The rate of C production is found to be rC  kCACB with the specific
reaction rate, k = 0.02 L mol-1 s-1.

If the available flow reactors are: one plug flow reactor (PFR) at 20 L and one continuous
stirred tank reactor (CSTR) at 15 L, suggest how the reactors should be arranged in series
to achieve the maximum conversion. Justify your answer with calculations.
