Project

The document discusses the benefits of renewable energy over fossil fuels. It notes that renewable energy sources like sunlight, wind, and water are naturally replenished, whereas fossil fuels are finite. Renewable energy can help meet global energy demand in a cleaner way. Specific renewable technologies mentioned include solar, wind, hydro, tidal, and geothermal power as well as biomass. The document argues that a transition to renewable energy sources can improve energy security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that are driving climate change.

ABSTRACT
The need for energy and its related services to
satisfy human social and economic development,
welfare and health is increasing due to the daily
growth of global population across the world and its
daily requirement of energy. Returning to alternative
or renewable energy is an excellent route to meeting
the energy demands of future generations. It fulfils
the promise of meeting the energy and development
needs of countries throughout the world. This
promise is particularly strong for developing
countries where many regions have not yet
committed to fossil fuel dominance. Renewable
energy such as solar thermal technologies are great
for serving the three billion people in rural areas
without grid electricity. Modern biomass energy is
also attractive because it uses locally available
agricultural wastes. Wind and hydropower energy

RENEWABLE ENERGY are also excellent technologies well suited to

generate clean energy too. Such renewable
resources are far more economical than traditional
energy resources, especially where the costs of
acquiring, maintaining and operating centralized
power stations and remediating their pollution can
be avoided.
Renewable energy or Fossil fuels?
● Cleaner energy for a better, greener future Renewable energy
Renewable or alternative energy, often referred to as clean energy,
comes from natural sources or processes that are constantly
replenished. For example, sunlight and wind keep shining or blowing,
even if their availability depends on time and weather. Renewable or
alternative energy can be used for electricity generation, water heating
and cooling and transportation. While renewable or alternative energy is
often thought of as new technology, harnessing nature's power has been long been used for
heating, transportation, lighting and more. Wind has powered boats to sail the seas and windmills
to grind grain. But over the past 500 years or so, humans increasingly turned to cheaper, dirtier
energy sources such as coal and fracked gas.

"Dirty" energy
Non- renewable or "dirty" energy includes fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal. Fossil fuels are
compound mixtures made of remains of plants and animals from millions of years ago buried
deep under the Earth's surface. That is why they are called non-renewable. If they are gone, we
cannot produce more. They are also found in specific parts of the world, making them plentiful in
some nations than others. By contrast, every country has access to sunshine and wind.

Types of renewable energy sources

1. Solar energy.
2. Wind energy.
3. Hydro energy.
4. Tidal energy.
5. Geothermal energy.
6. Biomass energy - Wood and wood waste, municipal solid waste, landfill gas and biogas
and biofuels.

Renewable energy can play an important role in world energy, security and in reducing
greenhouse gas emissions. Using renewable energy can help to reduce energy imports and fossil
fuel use, which is the largest source of the world's Carbon (IV) oxide emissions.
Four key climate change indicators - greenhouse gas concentrations, sea
level rise, ocean heat and ocean acidification - set new records in 2021. This
is yet another clear sign that human activities are causing planetary-scale
changes on land, in the ocean and in the atmosphere in dramatic and long-
lasting ramifications. The key to tackling this crisis is to end our reliance on
energy generated from fossil fuels - the main cause of climate change.
Critical actions the world needs to prioritize now to
transform our energy systems
1.Make renewable energy technology a global public good
For renewable energy technology to be a global public
good - available to all, and not just the wealthy - it will be
essential to remove roadblocks to knowledge-sharing and
technological transfer, including intellectual property rights
barriers.

2. Improve global access to components a raw material

More widespread access to all key components and materials - from the minerals needed to
produce wind turbines and electricity networks to electric vehicles - will be key.

3. Level the playing field for renewable energy technologies

While global cooperation and coordination is critical, domestic policy frameworks must urgently
be reformed to streamline and fast-track renewable energy projects and catalyze private sector
investments.

4. Shift energy subsidies from fossil fuels to renewable energy

Shifting subsidies from fossil fuels to renewable energy not only cuts emissions, it also contributes
to the sustainable economic growth, job creation, better public health and more equality,
particularly for the poor and most vulnerable communities around the world.

5. Triple investments in renewables

At least $4 trillion a year needs to be invested in
renewable energy until 2030 - including investments in
technology and infrastructure - to allow us reach net-
zero emissions by 2050.
