WORKSHOP V

A. TITLE: COMPUTER EXPANSION/ ADAPTERCARDS

B. AIM: ABILITY TO IDENTIFY AND INSTALL VARIOUS ADAPTER

CARDS INTO THEIR APPROPRIATE SLOTS

C. OBJECTIVE:

At the end of the workshop, student must be able to demonstrate the following
abilities;

Identify, install and uninstall various expansion cards on the motherboard

slot such as Ethernet card, AGP card, sound card, TV card etc

D. SIGNIFICANCE:

Expansion / adapter card as the name may be allows for future expansion of
functionalities on the computer system board. It also makes room for replacement of
damage I/O ports integrated on system board. Hence, students must understand all the
varieties of expansion card that can be fitted on the system board with their
corresponding expansion slots on board.

E. STEPS/PROCEDURE:

STEP 1: NIC installation steps:

1. Align the NIC to the appropriate slot on the motherboard.

2. Press down gently until the card is seated.
3. Secure the NIC PC mounting bracket to the case with the appropriate screw.

4. Align the NIC to the appropriate slot on the motherboard.

5. Press down gently until the card is seated.
6. Secure the NIC PC mounting bracket to the case with the appropriate screw.

STEP 2: Wireless NIC installation steps:

1. Align the wireless NIC to the appropriate expansion slot on the motherboard.
2. Press down gently on the wireless NIC until the card is fully seated.
3. Secure the mounting bracket to the case with the appropriate screw.

STEP 3: Video adapter card installation steps:

1. Align the Video adapter card to the appropriate expansion slot on the
motherboard.
2. Press down gently on the video adapter card until the card is fully seated.
3. Secure the video adapter card PC mounting bracket to the case with the
appropriate screw.

E. CONCLUSION:

Write and submit your conclusion.

WORKSHOP I

A. TITLE: MOTHERBOARD AND ITS COMPONENTS

B. AIM: TO DEMONSTRATE ABILITY TO INSTALL A COMPUTER

SYSTEM MOTHERBOARD

C. OBJECTIVE:

(i) At the end of the workshop, students are expected to differentiate types of
motherboard.
(ii) Identify the CPU/CPU socket and ability to install and install CPU on the
board.

D. SIGNIFICANCE:

Computer system motherboard is the hub to connect all other various hardware.
Hence, the need for students to identify different types of board, install and uninstall
computer system motherboard.

E. STEPS/PROCEDURE:

Steps to Install CPU

1. Align the CPU so that the connection 1 indicator is lined up with pin 1 on the
CPU socket.
2. Place the CPU gentle into the socket.
3. Close the CPU load plate and secure it by closing the load lever and moving it
under the load lever retention tab.
4. Apply a small amount thermal compound to the CPU and spread it evenly.
Follow the application instructions provided by the manufacturer.
5. Line up the heat sink/fan assembly retainers to secure the holes on the
motherboard.
6. Place the heat sink/fan assembly onto the CPU socket, being careful not to
pinch the CPU fan wires.
7. Tighten the heat sink/fan assembly retainers to secure the assembly in place.
8. Connect the heat sink/fan assembly power cable to the header on the board.

NOTE: To install a used CPU, clean it and the base of the heat sink with
isopropyl alchohol to remove the old thermal compound.

F. PRECAUTION:
