Assertions Claims and Their Evidence

This document discusses assertions, claims, and evidence. It defines an assertion as an opinion that needs proof to be valid. Claims can become controversial if they go against beliefs, criticize others, or lack evidence. Evidence provides support for claims and can come from textual sources or facts. The document also defines a counterclaim as a differing view that also requires evidence. Counterclaims can enrich discussions by presenting different perspectives but should be respectful and avoid fallacies.
