Data Gathering Instrument

The study utilized the data from the answers of the respondents from the

questionnaires and from the interview. Also, document analysis of their recorded

marks in the class records was used to validate the answers in the level of

practical research skills and to visibly see the progress happened in the

development of the skills of the respondents. Another set of questionnaires was

given to their research adviser to see the parallelism on perceptions about the

skills of the respondents. An interview was done towards the respondents to

determine the observed extent effects of medium of instruction to them.

This study was done by the researcher through the help of her adviser and

through books, unpublished materials and internet that were used as the

references.

Construction of the Survey and Interview Questionnaires. The

researcher used two types of questionnaires. The first one was the self-audit

questionnaire which assessed the level of practical research skills of the students

and another questionnaire for the research advisers of the respondents which

was validated the answers in the self-audit one. Also, the researcher constructed

interview questionnaires for the respondents to answer the observed effects of

medium of instructions to them.

Validation of the Survey and Interview Questionnaires. With the

advices and permission of the evaluator, the researcher consulted the reliable

assigned research advisers of the respondents to validate the questionnaires and


answers on it. Also, the researcher asked the assistance of a grammarian and

statistician within the division for the result of the questionnaires, the

transcriptions of the interview and the interpretation of the class records for

document analysis.

Administration of the Survey and Interview Questionnaires. The self-

audit questionnaires were first distributed to the respondents on the first week of

the second semester of school year 2018-2019 as well as the questionnaires for

the research advisers to validate the answers of the respondents. After that, the

researcher tried codeswitching as a medium of instruction in Practical Research

1 subject areas even on its instructional materials. Furthermore, right after the

discussion and application of data analysis, an interview was conducted to the

respondents to determine the observed effects of medium of instructions in

fulfilling their requirements and outputs in the said subject.

Retrieval of Survey and Interview Questionnaires. The accomplished

questionnaires were gathered and collected right after the first week of the

semester while the other set was collected by the end of February, 2019 as well

as the questionnaires for their research advisers. The answers for the interview

were transcribed to come up with the most reliable and relevant data from the

respondents. Moreover, the class records of the researcher were used and

analyzed by March, 2019 for it will have all the data of the respondents showing

the progress of their skills. All results were correlated and as well as the
transcribed information will be interpreted to determine the observed extent

effects of medium of instructions to the practical research skills of the students.

Scoring of Responses. The researcher determined the level of the

practical or fundamental research skills of the respondents and assessed the

extent effects of the medium of instructions to it by interpreting and tabulating the

verbal interpretations using Likert Scale:

RESPONSES. NO ONE WILL USE LIKERT SCALE AND THE LIKES.)

Data Gathering Procedure

Series of readings from related studies and online resources aided the

researcher to make a draft of the research and the needed data which will be

then forwarded to the adviser and evaluator for content and validity checking.

After finalizing the methodology to be used, the researcher prepared a

permission letter addressed to the school principal to allow the researcher to

utilize the Home Economics students as the subjects of the study. The

permission of the parents of the selected class was sought as well. The

researcher will be permitted to administer the study from November, 2018 until

March, 2019. The questionnaires were done and validated. It was disseminated

to the respondents and the research advisers. Interview was done to the

respondents after the implementation of the proposal to determine the extent

effects of MOI. The results were tabulated and interpreted. The answers to the

interview were transcribed and themed according to the key words of each
question. Finally, to get more accurate results, the final class record on the

subject was used and analyzed.

Once everything had been finalized, all results and gathered data were

kept intact for its confidentiality and privacy of the respondents. During the

presentation of the study, no private and specific information from all participants

was revealed.
