E. Introduction For those learners who have no access in the internet, their outputs shall be done in their journal
or portfolios which will be collected on agreed place and scheduled time.
WHAT’S NEW?
As Filipinos, we all know that we have our own unique ways of doing things. A smile,
smirk, or simple gestures are indicative of our feelings and emotions at one
particular point in time. With all these interactions in mind, we have social
scientist who study human behavior and actions within the context of the society.
This lesson will take us through the nature of the social sciences and its difference
from the natural sciences.
ACTIVITY I
Focus Question
In three sentences using your own words answer the following questions.
1. What is the importance of studying the social sciences?
2. How is the domain of social sciences different from the natural sciences?
WHAT’S IN?
The learners will read the paragraphs that introduce the emergence of the social
sciences.
They will complete the concept map to determine what they know about social
sciences.

the noun socius meaning comrade, friend, or ally;
- Group of people who occupy a particular territory and speak
a common language not generally understood by
neighbouring people
For Example
Researchers working on climate change will be definitely dealing with biology
and ecology in the natural sciences. In the same way, they may have to familiarize
themselves with geography as a natural science and then analyse its effects on humans
and society using the social sciences approach. They may also have to obtain knowledge
about the impact of climate change on social behaviors (Sociology) and on power as
motivation for human behaviour (political science).
