ASTROLOGY
Do you ever read your horoscope in a magazine, or ask a new friend what their star sign is? Many people believe that
our horoscopes can tell us a lot about our personalities, and even about our future. Some people check the month
their boyfriend or girlfriend was born, to see if they can get on well together. Others say that this is silly.

In our part of the world, we have the twelve signs of the Zodiac (our ‘star signs’), but the signs in Chinese horoscopes
are different. There are also twelve signs, but they match years, not months. The years are named after animals,
starting with the Rat and ending with the Pig. Your birth year shows your personality so, for example, a Tiger is brave
and a Dog is loyal.

In Japan both kinds of horoscope are popular. People in Japan also believe that your blood type, not your birthday or
star sign, can tell a lot about your personality. For example, ‘type 0s’ (‘0’ refers to the blood group) are optimistic, but
also independent and ambitious. It’s quite normal in Japan to ask about someone’s blood type, in fact many Japanese
people include this information in their Facebook profiles!
