Digital Game Industry
Digital Game Industry
The games industry is also a part of the cultural and creative industries [6]; and an interesting case in point of
technological power.
Games are a new cultural economy and field of economic life. Commercial games serve the purpose of,
among other things, entertainment and cultural promotion, cultural preservation, and education [7].
The inclusion of cultural elements into commercial games is also gaining traction [7]. One example is
Assassin’s Creed II, a game set in the Italian Renaissance period. The designers worked with authorities in Italy
to recreate different historical sites across Italy, helping boost tourism in each city included [8].
In recent years, the games industry is growing dramatically and digital games have become a popular
entertainment platform. Digital games are recognized as a highly innovative part of the creative economy,
especially in Japan, Korea, the USA, Canada, Holland, and the United Kingdom [9].
From Japan, Nintendo is a well-known worldwide company, particularly for their leading game design [10]
and Capcom has strong technical skills, with games including [Resident Evil] [11].
Nexon is one of the most successful game companies in Korea, generating significant profits [12][13]. Nexon
focus on the MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing games) such as [Crazyracing Kartrider] and
[MapleStory].
The USA has various game companies including Naughty Dog [Uncharted] and Santa Monica [God of War]
with a high level of technical skill.
Eidos-Montréal is a Canadian video game developer based in Montreal. Their famous game is [Tomb
Raider], a game based on marvel [15].
The Dutch game industry is well known for titles such as [Horizon Zero Dawn] by Guerrilla Games [16].
And finally, a studio in the U.K developed one of the top racing games [Forza Horizon], developed by
playground games [17].
