Social Networks

Social networks allow people and organizations to connect based on shared interests or values through online structures. While social networks and social media are often used interchangeably, they differ in that social networks refer to social structures composed of people with common interests, whereas social media focuses on technologies that enable interactive dialogue. The main purpose of social networks is to connect people by allowing them to create profiles and interact based on shared details. Social networks can be considered a category of social media.

Social networks are structures formed on the Internet by people or organizations that

connect based on common interests or values. Through them, relationships between

individuals or companies are created quickly, without hierarchy or physical limits.
Social networks VS Social Media
Many people believe that social networks and social media are the same and that the
terms can be used synonymously, but this is not true. Social media is the use of
technologies to make dialogue between people interactive, while a social network is a
social structure made up of people who share similar interests, as we already detailed in
the previous item.
The main purpose of social networks is to connect people. You fill out your profile on
social media channels and interact with people based on the details they read about you.
It can be said that social networks are a category of social media.

What are them?

Social networks, in the virtual world, are sites and applications that operate at various
levels – such as professional, relationship, among others – but always allowing the
exchange of information between people and/or companies.
When we talk about a social network, what comes to mind in the first place are sites like
Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn or applications like TikTok and Instagram, typical of
today. But the idea, however, is much older: in sociology, for example, the concept of
social network is used to analyze interactions between individuals, groups,
organizations or even entire societies since the end of the 19th century.
On the Internet, social networks have sparked discussions such as the lack of privacy,
but they have also served as a means of calling for public demonstrations in protests.
These platforms also created a new form of relationship between companies and
customers, opening paths both for interaction and for the announcement of products or
services.
When did they emerge?
SixDegrees is considered the first social network. This network allowed friends to get in
touch, grouping them according to the degree of relationship they had, so that they
could interact by sending messages.
LinkedIn is the most important work social network.
It is a platform to find a job or share your development and professional growth. It is the
most powerful tool to reach exactly the type of professional you need.
Since the origin of Facebook, its main objective was to facilitate communication
between students at Harvard University. The website Zuckerberg created allowed
students at the university to create online profiles, communicate and share with each
other.
Few people imagined that social networks would have as big an impact as they do
today. But the desire to connect with other people from anywhere in the world has made
people and organizations increasingly immersed in social networks.

Advanges
Possibility of selling through these channels: in the same way that it is possible to
interact with the public through social networks, it is also possible to use them to sell
your products or services, mainly if you approach that audience that already has a
relationship with you and is already showing ripe for purchase;
Possibility of dissemination for companies with a low budget: unlike traditional media,
advertising on social networks has a lower cost, in addition to the advantage that on the
web it is much easier to measure the results;
Instant information: social networks make it possible to communicate urgent brand
messages on an official channel. This is very important in the case of managing a crisis,
for example, in which it is necessary for the brand to position itself quickly, thus
preventing it from taking on larger proportions.

Disadvantages
Less close contact, more digital perception.
Who doesn't happen to be in the middle of a social gathering and quickly lose contact
with whoever they are talking to? It is very common to see that in the middle of a
conversation or family lunch that closeness and talk is minimal.
Crisis… Although social networks were not born as a solution to have a review of
professional or commercial profiles, the privacy of communicating what you think and
making decisions based on your digital behavior have a great influence in determining
your active participation in the company.
Anxiety and emotional imbalance
Did you know that TikTok is opened eight times a day on average and young people are
online for more than three hours a day? According to Ismael El-Qudsi, CEO at
SocialPubli.com, a platform that connects brands with influencers, social networks
stimulate dopamine in our brain, a substance that makes us happy, and as a consequence
generate dependency.

According to documentation, it has been determined that the brain flees from pain and
seeks pleasure. Pleasure found in a “perfect” photo after hours of retouching thanks to
filter features like those found on Instagram.
Sharing networks
Ig, Pinterest, tiktok…
Discussion
 Discord, Reddit, Quora.
  Traditional Social Networks. Examples: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter. ...

Vertical
It is characterized by being specialized in a certain subject and therefore brings together
a group of users with a very specific interest and knowledge about the subject in which
it specializes. Tinder, TripAdvisor y LinkedIn

Horizontal

Facebook, twitter or Ig

In conclusion, social networks have revolutionized the way we connect, communicate,

and share information. They have brought people together, enabled the exchange of
ideas, and facilitated business growth. However, their impact is not without drawbacks,
including potential negative effects on mental health, privacy risks, and the spread of
misinformation. As we continue to navigate the social media landscape, it is essential to
remain aware of its advantages and challenges, using these platforms responsibly and
consciously.
In conclusion, social networks have completely changed how we connect,
communicate, and share information. They have brought people together, allowed us to
exchange ideas, and helped businesses grow. However, there are also negative aspects
like potential harm to mental health, privacy risks, and the spread of false information.
As we continue to use social networks, it's important to be aware of both the benefits
and challenges they present and to use them responsibly and wisely.
