INTRODUCTION

The Indian retail industry has emerged as one of the most dynamic and fast-paced industries due to
the entry of several new players. It accounts for over 10 per cent of the country’s Gross Domestic
Product (GDP) and around 8% of the employment. India is the world’s fifth-largest global
destination in the retail space.

Indian Retail Industry has immense potential as India has the second largest population with
affluent middle class, rapid urbanization and solid growth of internet.

Within this retail industry there is also growth of sports industry, which is driven by ever-
increasing popularity of involving sports in daily life by major part of population. Today all premier
schools are focusing on training kids in at least one sport in addition to the

regular curriculum. Sports academies are also gaining popularity, which is accelerating demand
of sports equipment's in India.

The popularity of sports has increased dramatically over


the past few year. Sports business are a way of creating a
value based business that gives back social benefit to the
community

Sports mart sell a wide variety of sports products for


almost all sports and have a rich product line-up for
various type of equipment. They have categorized their
product into 2 categories.

• Blue: - Product of starting range which are affordable and are focused on catering young athletes.

• Professional: - Comparatively higher end products to cater the Professional players.

Sports mart provides good quality product at affordable price. Sports mart promote vocal for local.
Vocal for local means not only to buy product made in the country but also to promote it proudly.

IDEA GENERATION

After analysing the current situation of India. Sports are a necessary thing in one’s life to improve
and maintain a healthy and balanced life. It helps to keep our body and mind fit and energetic, to do
sports, one needs to have some equipment by which a person can do variety of sports. Nowadays,
sports equipment is more than a business. It is an effective way to earn profits. The report is about a
sports equipment business and it is a small business to earn profits among business.

Sports Mart is generally a sports equipment selling business which ensures quality products rather
than rejected and bad products in a cheap rate. Sports Mart strives toward building long-term
relationships with our customers and employees.

India has a long journey ahead on its path to developing a strong sports culture. It needs to begin at
the base, and that is what will build the future. To achieve excellence in sports, the primary focus
should be on developing an environment conducive to growth and development of sportspersons,
just as it is for the ones that follow the path of academics. Significant improvements are required in
governance, infrastructure and attitude towards sports to enable the younger generation to look at
sports as a viable career option.
In every country where they are present, they share a strong and unique company culture, reinforced
by their two values: Vitality and Responsibility. At Sports Mart, they place innovation at the heart
of their activities: from research to retail, including design, production and logistics. Sports mart
provides good quality product at affordable price. Sports mart promote vocal for local. Vocal for

formed by 3 members and it is a partnership business.
Partnership business is easy to form having a partner generally
means great financial capability and someone to share in the
tasks and decision making of a business. It is even better if
partners have varied skills.

to give every type of facilities to the consumer

OBJECTIVE OF THE INNOVATION

This project is undertaken to look for potential areas where sale of sports products of Sports mart is
lagging and what measures could be undertaken to increase the sale of products. The main aim of
this project is to develop strategy, which could target potential buyers of sports products in Kanpur.
And it also aims to increase overall sale of figures Sports mart Store. So just my spreading
awareness about sports products we could also achieve getting more walk-ins in store, which in turn
would help, in increasing the overall sales figures of Sports mart Store. By following this project, I
am also trying to find out preferences of Sports players. And whether they differ with level of
experience or are common throughout. This project would also help me identify whether people
who are already following a brand are likely to switch or change brands or not.

WHO ARE THEIR CUSTOMERS:-

Today the purchasing power of Indian population is increasing gradually and it is the middle-class
& lower-class section of the society which shows maximum characteristics and effects of such a
growth. The major societal section they cater to are the amateur athletes or sports lovers who either
do not wish to or cannot afford to purchase high end sports products and equipment. This is created
a unique niche market of sports enthusiasts between the cheap and expensive equipment.

DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL
Sports Mart reaches to their customers through two channels-company owned stores and
company's own website. This helps the company in the following ways:

• Since Sports Mart follows reverse logistics, keeping this type of controlled distribution channel is
essential in delivering the value to the customers.
• It also cuts the cost of any middlemen and other overhead costs that comes with it.

WAREHOUSE SETUP
All the items in the warehouse are arranged on the basis of sports which allows casy access of all
items each and every rack is labelled with a unique barcode number which gives a precise data of
what is where.
The warehouse has three compartments and each compartment has various workspaces.

• The 1" compartment has all the loose pickings and these stored in the standard packages. Since
these are the items which are loosely picked they have been thoughtfully arranged at a human reach
level. Which means no forklifts are required in this compartment.
• The 2d compartment has all the blue and professional range of products, these are also stored in the
standard packages.
• The 3" compartment has all the non-standard packages and these are stored on high racks which
require the use of forklifts.

PRODUCT LOADING
The warehouse has a state of the art docking system wherein all the stores of decathlon has a
dedicated bay which means only products going to a particular store will come to that bay which
removes the possibility of wrong delivery, in fact eradicates any confusion whatsoever.

SAFETY
Safety has been paid duly notice in the warehouse. There are separate walk ways all throughout the
warehouse for easy movement of pedestrians so that do not hamper the work of other employees as
well as it ensures that no employees accidentally come in unwanted contact of other heavy
machines being operated in warehouse.

There are 18 exits in the warehouse which makes sure the employees have enough escape routes in
case of any emergency as the warehouse hold a tendency to burn down in 10 minutes in case of a
fire mishap.

To monitor how many people are present in the warehouse at given point of time they have a
dedicated name tag counter where you activate your tag when you are in. This type of monitoring
helps in better planning in the warehouse.

TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY: -
We are focused on providing better service for the users so we will required a technical support
where users can approach us.
Certain important engineering aspects are covered which are necessary for the designing of The
Sports Mart.

Online Sports store is an e-commerce based web application. Where the user can view the product
related to sports and can buy the product online. Admin or shop owners can add the product
according to the product category or product type. This project contains all the common features of
a web application like CRUD operation ADD product, Delete product, Edit, and Update Product,
Dummy payment page, Cart option to view the project, or select product. An online sports shop is
using JSP, HTML, and CSS to manage the view part or User part of the application also it’s using
servlets to manage the server-side request and response and MYSQL to manage the backend.

is adults and children. Children like to play with different types of sports equipment’s. Adults buy
that for them nowadays, women also play different types of games. So we are targeting women
besides men we will provide our products in summer and winter. We will keep indoor and outdoor
games.

• Potential Customers: - Our potential customers are young generations who are interested in sports
and sports equipment.

• Attracting New Customers: - We will attract new customers by giving discounts of our
products.

• Customer's Benefits: - We will give offers and Discount to the customers. Our customers can buy

Firstly, we can invite our friends, relative and neighbour to visit our shops, so that can introduce
with our product and thus this process they are willing to buy our products and they tell their
friends, parents and relatives to buy our product through this process we can promote our
business.

Secondly, we will sponsor our product through the indoor/outdoor league or tournaments and
Association.

Finally, we can promote our business through various advertisement strategies. We can advertise
out sports equipment/Product through trade magazines, newspaper, social media etc.

 BRAND AWARENESS: -
Brand awareness is the most important thing that Sports Mart need in Kanpur. Following steps
could be taken to achieve this.
• It can choose one place to put a hoarding from where the most people could notice like the toll near
Stadium. Many people goes in the morning and come back in the evening from Green park . That
would be the best place to put hoarding to create awareness.
• Also advertisements could also be done near sports academies so that kids and their parents would
think of visiting Sports Mart when they need to buy some gear.
• Digital medium is the best way to communicate with mass. And it can be used much effectively to
spread awareness. Blogs could be written regarding reviews of racket or details could be mentioned.
These could be posted on Facebook and Instagram pages. Also a campaign could be launched
where every day one racket is explained in detail its play and technical information. People could be
asked to put their views or reviews regarding that.

 SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS & TIE-UPS


The opportunity that Sports Mart hold is to form tie-ups with various academies and schools.
Sponsor and organize tournaments which could benefit both of them is best and cheapest way to
increase footfall in stores.
• There are various Cricket academies in Kanpur. Sports Mart can tie-up with one to organize
tournament in one of them and in turn promote the same academy at store. This is beneficial for
both of them and prizes given in terms of coupons would pull customers.

store irrespective of sport.

amount of equipment, we give them opportunity to buy our products on account. Sometimes we
give them discount. If there is any problem in our any product, we provide our customers the
opportunities to re- exchange or repair the product.

Location of Business: - We are choosing Kanpur for our business. Kanpur is a busy area of Uttar
Pradesh. Several stadiums are here. For this people like to go there to buy sports equipment’s. There
are also many sports shop for which we can give a good competition over there.

Location is a very important factor for our business. So, we must figure out how location will
contribute to success of our business and we have to choose a location accordingly. As we conduct
an online sports equipment shop, we must be attentive some factors for choosing a location of our
business. The facts are given below-

• Customer convenience: First, we need to identify who our customer and how we can best meet of
our needs. As we are conducting online sports equipment shop, our shop must be convenient to the
customer. The location must be easily accessible and provide the customer with a feeling of safety

By going through their responses I got that many of them wanted that I should focus on
advertisement more so that customers can get to know about my service. Basically, it’s just a startup
and I can’t put much capital on this. So, with increase in my profit and number of customers I will
look further into advertising more through social media and newspapers and will look for
developing an app for my service soon.
