At the end of the topic, the students are expected to:

a. Identify the figurative languages Onomatopoeia and Irony;


b. demonstrate the relevance of Onomatopoeia and Irony in a daily basis; and
c. make a dialogue using Onomatopoeia and Irony.

1. Activity

I will group you into two; do the task I will assign


you within 3 minutes. And choose a representative
who will present your work.
Group 1: Answer the ff:
1. How do we clean the toilet bowl
after using it?
2. What sound does a Lion make?
3. What should we do before
entering a closed room?

Group 2: Study and explain the paragraph


below:
Looking at her son's messy room,
Mom says "wow, you could win an award
for cleanliness."
(Let the students present their work.)

2. Analysis
Group 1: Flush, roar and knock
What have you observed with these words?
Do we speak them through their actual sound?
Yes ma'am!
So, what do we call these words?
They’re called ONOMATOPOEIA.
- A word that imitates the noise it represents.
- Ex. Splash! Bang! Pop! Buzz! Bang!
(more examples will be given)
Group 2: The mother says to her son the
opposite of what she really meant.
When what is said is different from
What is meant, we call this? IRONY
- Statement of an action which expresses
one idea but means the opposite
- Ex. "This is my brilliant son who failed out
in college."

4. Application
Group Activity: finish within 5 minutes.
In a manila paper:

Group 1: Make a dialogue using Irony.


Group 2: Make a dialogue using Onomatopoeia.

Now, can you recall yourself using onomatopoeic
words in a conversation?

Have you experienced being ironic?

I hope you’ll always be able to recognize Onomatopoeia
and Irony in your daily life because we actually
utter them often times without us realizing it.

IV. Evaluation
In ½ crosswise, construct 3 sentences of Irony,
and 3 sentences of Onomatopoeia.

V. Assignment
Recall an ironic experience and write it on a half sheet of paper.
