Interview Questions and Answers

Q-21) What is the Electrical area classification?

Ans: Electrical Area Classification

HV, MV, LV

Class1- Division1: High voltage—greater than 650v

Class1- Division2: Medium Voltage—250v t0 650v

Unclassified Low voltage – less than 250v

Q22- What is the ELCB and RCCB?

Ans:

 ELCB- Earth leakage circuit breaker

 RCCB- Residual current circuit breaker
 ELCB is replaced by RCCB completely

Q23- How ELCB works?

 As above earth wire is connected to sensing and tripping block

 Phase and neutral are the input and both are also output
 As phase connects earth wire due to any reason then current leakage through the earth wire
that is enough to trip activate the tripping block
 Then ELCB goes to open and will isolate the source of leakage current

Q24- What is the function of RCCB?

Residual current circuit breaker

Interview Questions and Answers

 Works on the principle of core balance current transformer

 Core balance current transformant attached across the phase and neutral wire
 Load connected to phase and neutral terminal in RCCB
 Monitors, how much current is going from phase and how much current returning in neutral
 In case of leakage detected by CBCT, that goes through the earth wire
 With detected leakage current, relay operating coil trip and isolate the source

Q-25 What is the difference between ELCB and RCCB?

Interview Questions and Answers

Q26- What are the Hazards of Power Tools?

 Electric shock
 Fire and Explosion
 Spark
 Burn Injuries
 Cut injuries
 Noise
 Vibration

Q-28)

What is the CBT?

Example:

 Connecting the CBCT on single phase motor

 Supply will pass through core of CBCT (Supply wires are primary winding of CBCT)
 If Motor takes 10A current, then 10A current will flow from phase/red wire
 If same 10A current flow from neutral the difference will be zero
10A-10A=0A
 So, magnetic field of zero Ampere (0A) will be generated
 So, no current will flow from secondary coil
Interview Questions and Answers

 If earth fault occurs, means unfortunately neutral or phase wire gets cut and touch to body
of Motor
 Then some current will flow through the earth wire via body of motor (suppose 3A) and 7A
passing through the neutral wire
10A - 7A= 3A
 Magnetic field of 3A will be generated
 Current (3A) will flow from secondary of CBCT that will be send to relay (ELR)

Three phase system

 In case of 3-phase, no current will from secondary in normal condition
 As earth leakage occurs, current will flow from secondary, that sent to relay (ELR) that trips
the breaker
Interview Questions and Answers

Q-29) What is the earth Fault Relay?

 Fault current Knob – to set the limit of fault current on which ELR must trip the breaker (e.g
0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 10, 30, 50)
 If fault current value to set 1mA then knob should be on 01, 3mA – 0.3, 5mA – 0.5, 1A – 1,
3A – 3, 5A – 5.
 Delay Knob – To set delay time after which ELR must operate to trip the breaker
 If delay= 0ms then ELR will operate as fault appears as set
 If delay=3ms (or more, or greater than zero) then ELR will operate after 3ms or after dealy

Q-30)

Wiring of CBCT and earth fault relay?

Q-31)

Testing of CBCT and Earth fault relay?

Q-32)

Why should we use earth fault protection?
