Baseband 6630 Installation Procedures - MOP
Note: If the Baseband unit comes with dust plugs inserted, during the installation process, do not
remove them. Ensure all unoccupied ports on the Baseband unit have dust plugs inserted.
Images in this NDD do not show the dust plugs inserted.
Step Task/Observation
If Fan module is not in-built to the Baseband unit, ensure that it is attached to the
Baseband. If it is not, attach it.
1
For example, in case of Baseband 6630 as seen in image below, Fan module is
attached by tightening the screws(as highlighted below by yellow arrow) by hand or by
using T20 Torx screwdriver.
Unpack the 2 mounting brackets and screws for 19-inch rack mounting that accompanied
the Baseband unit. Some of the examples of mounting brackets for different type of units
are shown below:
2
After selecting proper holes on both sides of Baseband unit, attach the brackets on both
the sides (using T20 Torx screwdriver) as shown in the images below as examples.
The placement of brackets on the unit should be planned in such a way that there should
be sufficient free spacing maintained on the front side and on back side of unit after
installation. For example, at least 30 mm free space is needed behind the Baseband
6630.
Below are some images for examples of brackets installed on the left and right side of the
unit:
3
Example 1 (Baseband 6630):
Connect the ground cable to the Baseband unit. using 2 screws and 2 washers, as shown
below. Process of attaching of ground cable may vary from product to product.
4
Ensure that ground cable is attached to the Baseband unit before mounting
in the rack.
Below are some of the examples of ground cable attachment:
Example 1 (Baseband 6630 - Where grounding cable with dual lug is attached to one of its
mounting bracket (which is having dual ground lug attachment point) using 2 screws and 2
washers and tightened using T20 Torx screwdriver):
Select the position on 19-inch rack where you would want to mount the unit and using a flat
5
head screwdriver, secure the captive nuts on left and right side of the rack .
Mount the unit into the designated location on the 19-inch rack and tighten the four screws
using T30 Torx screwdriver.
(Baseband 6630):
Baseband 6630 Cabling
Note: If the Baseband unit comes with dust plugs inserted, remove only those dust plugs from ports
where connection needs to be done. After the cabling process, ensure that all the unoccupied ports
on the Baseband unit have dust plugs inserted. Images in this NDD do not show the dust plugs
inserted.
Step Task/Observation
As per the site specific configuration and scope of work, connect all applicable CPRI
cables (from Radio units), Sync timing reference cable, IDL cables, TN cables, etc., to
Baseband 6630. The image below shows CPRI cables connected on SFP ports A and B,
Transport cable connected on port C which is an RJ-45 interface. Please note that the
connections shown in the image below are just for example.
Please note that the Ground cable seen in the image below was previously
connected to the Baseband unit during Installation.
1
Verify that the assigned power supply breaker for Baseband unit is in OFF position.
Before connecting power supply to the Baseband unit, switch on the power supply breaker
2
and use a voltmeter to ensure correct voltage is being supplied (-48 VDC) and confirm
polarity (-48 Black/ 0V Grey). After this test is completed, switch off the power supply
breaker.
Connect the -48V power cable to one of the Baseband -48V DC input power port and leave
the power off to the Baseband unit at this point. There are 2 ports (A and B) for input power
on Baseband 6630 for redundancy point of view. The image below shows power cable (as
highlighted by yellow box) connected to port A.
Verify all unoccupied ports on the Baseband unit have Dust plugs inserted. Check that all
4 the cables including external cables are labeled or color coded, per the customer's
standards, at the Baseband unit/RBS and at opposite end (if applicable).
